RF labels help stop shoplifting

It’s true. When properly executed, RF security labels can help stop shoplifting. It’s no secret, shoplifter’s desire privacy and ease of action. They don’t want any witnesses nor any attention. Using RF labels takes away their privacy and makes it more difficult to get in and out of your stores un-noticed.

A former retailer I worked with had a huge problem with shoplifters. It was a small chain of drug stores selling general merchandise. They needed a way to control the amount of product loss through their doors. They initially had a manager stand at the front of the store, as sort of a customer service greeter, however, quickly found this to be a very costly and ineffective effort. The manager was constantly away from the door, dealing with customer service related issues, stocking shelves and handling administrative issues. I recommended they test out an RF label program, like Checkpoint Security tags to help stop shoplifting.

The owners were somewhat reluctant and felt the return on the investment might not be there. After more conversation, and a demonstration of how exactly RF security tags worked, they agreed. RF security tags were placed on a test class of high shrink/theft merchandise. An RF label like Checkpoint labels is a small discreet way to help stop shoplifting and can be extremely effective when used properly. Each RF label was affixed to merchandise, maintaining the integrity of the manufacturer’s label.

The design of Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels is designed to not only activate the pedestal monitoring system but to be an obvious visible deterrent as well. Going back to shoplifters and privacy, when a shoplifter is confronted with visible Checkpoint labels on merchandise, the shoplifter is less likely to wanna spend any time attempting to defeat the RF label. Make no mistake; Checkpoint labels and RF security labels are effective methods to control loss.

Anti shoplifting devices for clothes is a must.

There are many types of retailers in the market place today, but one that gets hit perhaps the hardest is soft line retailers.  Clothes represent one of the largest segments of retail so it stands to reason that it is significantly impacted by theft.  In order to incorporate retail theft prevention into the business plan, stores must utilize anti shoplifting systems to help fight the theft epidemic.

There are many different anti shoplifting systems on the market all aimed at assisting stores in their retail theft prevention plight.  One solution that I recommend is the Checkpoint Security System.  A Checkpoint Security System is a good choice for several reasons.  For one, Checkpoint systems are reliable.  Like any investment in your business you expect longevity in your systems.  Checkpoint systems have stood the test of time for many retailers so I am confident they will for your business as well.  A second reason to use Checkpoint systems is that they are always evolving with the times.  Checkpoint understands that technology does not stand still and they constantly work to provide solutions that work for today and tomorrow.

The Checkpoint security tags are a perfect example of this last concept.  We are all aware of the old sensor tags that utilize a pin and a label to puncture the clothes and make the alarm sound.  This is a great system and one that still works today, but the Checkpoint systems technology goes far beyond this basic concept.  You can now have Checkpoint security tags woven into the clothes.  You can get Checkpoint security tags that have ink packets to prevent tampering.  You can even get adhesive Checkpoint security tags to put on all your boxed product.  The options are endless and the retail theft prevention tangible.  All you have to do try it.

Antishoplifting!!! Is it possible?

Anti shoplifting as a strategy, as an achievable goal or is it a “wishy washy” flight of the fancy? When you have a business that sells product that a wide demographic desires then you have merchandise that numerous thieves will crave. The decision a small business has to make is whether or not Loss Prevention is a major concern. Unfortunately many small businesses do not consider anti shoplifting measures to be a priority when then first open their doors.

Larger businesses have gone through and understand the process of incurring shrink via shoplifting.  Retail theft prevention should be a major consideration before the doors ever open to any business otherwise product will be lost needlessly. I always enjoyed working for a company that utilized the Checkpoint security system. When a checkpoint system has been purchased and implemented correctly it allows business owners to concentrate on sales vs. losses.

Having the Checkpoint security system also allowed Loss Prevention departments to concentrate on other areas of loss thus offering the capability to reduce overall shrink further. Checkpoint security tags are the beacons that have always shone brightly to thieves. Whether it is a hard clothing checkpoint security tag or a soft sticker checkpoint security tag, thieves know at that moment when they see product tagged properly and consistently it is time to find another retailer who does not employ that type of retail theft prevention. Shoplifters are looking for product that they can stuff into bags, strollers, backpacks and on their person. They realize when they see a checkpoint system in the store that methods of concealment are useless because the checkpoint security tags will set off the system if they attempt to leave the premises. This not an ideal situation for a potential thief, most of the time they will move on to easier targets.

It is very important however that the suspect, when casing a business with a checkpoint security system, observes that the checkpoint alarm when activated is being reacted to in a proper manner. They must also see consistent and proper tagging of merchandise. Any holes that are apparent will reduce the capability of the checkpoint system to be effective. Anti shoplifting is only attainable when Retail theft prevention is the foundation to your Loss Prevention strategy.

The Smallest RF Label

When I say small, I mean small. This particular RF label is only the size of your standard postage stamp. There are a plethora of different Checkpoint labels available to fit your needs and this one is designed for smaller items that do not need big, bulky RF labels taking up an entire side.

While the postage stamp RF security labels are small and aesthetically pleasing, you do need to keep in mind that their detection is not going to be as good as some of the larger Checkpoint security tags. As I have stated in some of my previous articles, when it comes to RF security tags, size matters. This is why it is very important to know what RF security labels to use in what situations.

There is always going to be decisions to be made about which RF security tags to use on what products. Do you sacrifice aesthetics for better detection or sacrifice some detection for aesthetics? If the latter is your choice, then the postage stamp label is right for you.

The Checkpoint postage stamp label is available in three main styles. The first style is a simple plain white label that is very popular for obvious reasons. The second style is a faux barcode. This feature helps to disguise that it is a security tag even further than it’s already small size. In the third style the label is black. This helps the label blend into darker colored merchandise to help keep it from standing out.

With all of this in mind, I hope I have helped you decide what security label will best help you stop shoplifting from occurring in your store.

Use a Checkpoint security system to protect your holiday spirit.

The holidays are upon us.  We can look forward to presents and family time.  As retailers we look forward to a great fourth quarter of increased sales and hopefully a nice fat bonus.  What can dampen this spirit of joy and merriment is theft.  Theft often makes us mad.  It dampens morale in the store.  It cuts into profits and sales (which directly cuts into that bonus we all want at the first of the year).  In order to prevent theft there are a few things we need on our Santa list.

Anti shoplifting devices are a must.  If we are truly going to experience retail theft prevention then we start with anti shoplifting devices.  Checkpoint systems is a great maker of EAS products.  The Checkpoint security tags are some of the more reliable and affordable tags on the market.  Checkpoint security tags are also known to shoplifters.  Shoplifters see Checkpoint security tags and will often leave the product alone and go steal elsewhere (which is exactly what we want).

Another option from Checkpoint systems are cameras.  Public view monitors are great at deterring both theft and robbery.  When potential criminals see that their activity is being recorded then they are much less likely to commit the crime as they know the police will have an easy case.  Covert cameras are also great for keeping an eye on associates, but since retail theft prevention is what we are after I like to let everyone see that we have video.

Finally, a Checkpoint security system is in order.  A Checkpoint security system will help protect your business when you are away.  We all want to be able to enjoy taking time off at the holidays and it’s nice to be able to relax knowing the store is in good hands.

RF security labels sewn in the clothes at manufacturing!? For real???

Yes.  You can now get your RF security labels and RF security tags applied during manufacturing so you don’t have to do it.  How amazing is that?  No more associate hours spent putting on EAS tags, but rather spent helping customers.  Isn’t that an innovative concept?

Checkpoint security is a leading maker of RF security tags and RF security labels.  Their Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags can now be applied directly during the manufacturing process.  If you sell clothes you can have Checkpoint labels woven inside the clothes (much like the wash instructions).  The EAS deactivator at checkout will deactivate the tag and the customer can leave it alone or remove easily with a pair of scissors at home.  Besides helping to deter theft this can also help defend against wear and return customers.  If they cut the tags out you know they’ve worn and altered the product and can easily refuse the refund.

For many other items you can have the Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags built in.  For boxed products they can apply the RF security tags either on the inside or the outside of the boxes.  If done outside it is more visible to shoplifters to let them know this item is protected.  If you are having a problem with ORC groups removing labels before stealing the product you can make it harder by having them put inside the boxes. It is hard to stop shoplifting, but using RF labels and tags will go a long way to helping in this fight.

Protect Your Leather Items with retail theft protection!

Leather items are expensive and heavily sought after by thieves. This is especially true at the retail store I work at. The high price tag equates to a higher resell value for those who want those items for free. That is why we always ensure we place Checkpoint security tags on those pricey leather jackets. The Checkpoint security system is an indispensable resource for keeping those items on the shelf. Without retail theft protection, thieves think it’ll be worth the risk of getting caught if they can get away with $200 jacket and that can severely hurt your business’s profits.

In my experience, the Checkpoint security tags by Checkpoint systems are an excellent fit for any heavier jackets especially with the winter months fast approaching. The security tags create a statement, telling potential thieves that this store is anti shoplifting.

The Checkpoint security tags are tough, too. Not only does the size of the tag allow for easy access for the customer, but the security tag material is not easily tampered with. Shoplifters are familiar with retail theft protection and they know the time spent attempting to disrupt the Checkpoint security system only increases the risk of getting caught. That risk is not worth the reward, so next time the shoplifter will choose the store without retail theft protection. Don’t be the store that’s not protected. Make it tough on the shoplifters and force them to go somewhere else.

Stop shoplifting or it may be YOUR goose being cooked!!

As a District LP Manger of a supermarket chain I am often struck by what people will actually try to steal.  It can be funny, but also unnerving, to see someone actually try to stick a turkey, ham or other large item under a dress and try to walk out.  Besides the sanitation issues that I don’t even want to ponder, I am very concerned by the brazen approach to supermarket theft.  I see more push outs and other obvious thefts here than any other hard or soft line retailer that I have ever worked before.  In order to stop shoplifting I rely heavily on RF security tags and RF security labels.

One leading producer of RF security tags and RF security labels is Checkpoint.  Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels are some of the best in the business.  There are a variety of sizes and shapes that the Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels can be purchased.  This helps me to protect a wide variety of products.  I can use the hard Checkpoint security tags and lanyards to protect some of the general merchandise and promo items that we sell.  I use RF labels on a large variety of OTC, HBC and Meat products.  There are several options for each category that I find work well for my business.  From RF label soaker pads to source tagging options, Checkpoint helps me stop shoplifting and increase customer satisfaction.

HOLIDAY RETAIL THEFT PREVENTION

It’s that time of year again!  The holiday shopping season is quickly approaching and retailers are scrambling to make preparations.  They are ordering new merchandise, hiring seasonal staff and hanging colorful lights throughout the store.  The holidays feel truly magical at times!

Many consumers have put a little extra cash aside to purchase the perfect gift for close friends, family and co-workers. As a result, there is always a sales increase in November and December. Unfortunitally the busy holiday shopping season is also the busy holiday shoplifting season so being anti shoplifting must be a priority.

A major retailer I once worked for saw a 100% increase in shoplifting incidents during the last quarter of the year.  Retail theft prevention was always a priority but we really had to work extra hard to protect profits over the holidays.  Shoplifiters love a busy store because it gives them a greater sense of security.

Having a checkpoint security system in place was a great tool to support our anti shoplifting program.  Retail theft prevention is without a doubt a challenge for any retailer during the holidays and checkpoint security systems were used to track our trendiest items on display.

We simply placed checkpoint security tags on the merchandise and the tags would be removed by a customer service associate at the point of sale.  If the checkpoint security tag was not removed and a shoplifter attempted to leave the store with unprocessed merchandise, the door alarms would alert our staff.

If you are ready to make retail theft prevention a priority this holiday season you should consider a checkpoint security system.  Checkpoint security tags by checkpoint systems helped us deter opportunists that prey on busy stores and were the pillar of our anti shoplifting program.

You don’t need a GPS to find directions to stop shoplifting.

There are a variety of ways to stop shoplifting in retail stores.  One way is by making apprehensions, but there is a lot of liability in this and it takes trained professionals to do the job correctly.  One safe and affordable option is to utilize RF security labels and RF security tags.  RF labels are sensor tags that have a radio frequency microchip that sends a signal to the pedestals at the doors when a “live” tag is passed through them.  In shorter terms, when you have a tag that has not been deactivated at the registers it will set of the door alarms when someone tries to walk out without paying.

One popular maker of RF security tags and RF security labels is Checkpoint.  Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels are widely known in most shoplifting circles.  Thieves are much more likely to leave your product alone when it is protected by RF labels and tags then they are to steal it.  This is really what you want.  Deterrence.

Now don’t get me wrong.  You will still have individuals who attempt to steal product even with Checkpoint security tags attached.  Some amateurs who don’t know what they are doing will still try to steal.  Others think they are brave and will attempt to steal as well.  When this happens you can still respond.  Most states use a “Shopkeepers Act” which allows the store to stop customers when the EAS system is alarmed.  You can then check the bags, receipts, etc. to determine if you have a loss or not.  This has much less liability than simply making an accusation of theft against a random customer.
