Anti Shoplifting Tools

There is no common conclusion among retailers on what constitutes the best anti shoplifting device.  There are all kinds of tools that the retailer can use to keep shoplifting under control depending on the severity and frequency of theft, the category and price point of merchandise displayed and the actual location of the store itself.  The common denominator seems to be that no matter what anti shoplifting measures the retailer takes, the shoplifter will always try to find a way to defeat it.

Convex mirrors, visible cameras, and two way mirrors are easily seen and avoided by shoplifters, as are sales people and other employees.  All a shoplifter needs is a second of privacy hidden from view to conceal merchandise and be out of the store with it.

Checkpoint Security Systems has a retail theft prevention plan designed to stop shoplifting by all but the most determined shoplifters.

The retailer makes the decision as to the criteria of the merchandise to be protected.  Checkpoint labels or Checkpoint tags are attached to that merchandise and effectively ensures that a shoplifter will not steal it.

Checkpoint labels are placed on the packaging of merchandise considered high theft.  There are a large selection of anti shoplifting labels available from Checkpoint Systems that attach to the packages with adhesive or are hidden inside the merchandise so that it is not visible to the customer.  If these retail anti theft devices have not been deactivated by an employee and are carried out the door, an alarm will sound, alerting the staff to take action.

The Checkpoint tags attach to apparel and ready to wear by a pin that goes through the garment in an inconspicuous place and secures the tag to the garment.  The Checkpoint tags can be removed only with a special detacher.  As with the label, failure to remove the tag will result in an audible alarm at the exit.

Checkpoint Systems can help any retailer who wants to cut his losses due to shoplifting.  The presence of the Checkpoint Security System alone deters most shoplifters since it is visible but not intimidating at the customer entrance and the Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels are extremely difficult to remove or defeat.

Used by themselves or with other retail theft prevention tools, a Checkpoint Security System will significantly decrease a retailer’s loss to customer theft.

Efforts to Stop Shoplifting Get a Boost With RF Security Labels

Shoplifting becomes more than a nuisance when it has a serious impact on the bottom line and calls for serious efforts to stop shoplifting by the shop ownership.

Shoplifting is so expected among retailers that it affects everything in the retail world from store design to merchandising to number of staff and the number of work hours scheduled.  Shoplifting is even a budgeted item (inventory reserve) because everyone in the business knows that retail theft is a given.

Retail anti theft devices (example: Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint security labels) of varying degrees have been found to have a positive impact on the rate of inventory loss for the retailer and proven to be cost effective as a means to stop shoplifting.

Technology has played a great part in the improvement of retail anti theft devices, from closed circuit television to electronic surveillance that detects merchandise protected by Checkpoint tags and Checkpoint security labels as it leaves a store or department without being purchased.

Checkpoint Systems manufactures anti theft solutions for almost any application or budget.  Once only affordable by the largest retailers, there are now Checkpoint systems that pay a quick return on investment for any size store or boutique.  Checkpoint RF tags and Checkpoint RF security labels are designed to be used on merchandise of unlimited size and shape.  Boxes, soft goods, bottles, whatever needs protecting, Checkpoint systems, RF security tags and RF security labels are made to improve the retailer’s profit margin by preventing the potential profit to walk out the door courtesy of the five finger discount.

Some retailers restrict their effort to high theft/high value items by applying Checkpoint labels and RF security tags to such as baby formula or leather goods.  The storeowner or manager is the best judge of how to use his assets to stop shoplifting, including RF security tags and RF security labels made by Checkpoint Systems.

Reasonable Measures Taken Using RF Labels

Reasonable measures to stop shoplifting are those that will give a retailer a return on his investment and stop his profits from walking out the door, like using RF security labels and RF security tags on merchandise that is vulnerable to customer theft.

Every retailer experiences inventory shrink; it is a retail business fact of life.  The trick is to balance economic preventive measures with acceptable merchandising methods.

In some high crime areas, customers expect and understand merchandise that is under lock and key or behind glass.  In others, such means to protect merchandise would be over the top and turn shoppers off, as they expect to be able to handle and inspect the goods, as they are able to do with merchandise protected by Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags.

One of the less obtrusive retail electronic devices designed to stop shoplifting is the Checkpoint Security System.  The system stands quietly at the entrance until it is needed.  When it detects active RF security tags or RF security labels on clothing or other merchandise that leaving the store unpaid, it alerts store personnel with an audible alarm.

The Checkpoint security tags and RF labels come in a variety of shapes and sizes for almost any application or type of merchandise.  Your and your employees’ eyes can’t be on every shopper all the time, but a Checkpoint Security System is always on.

The return on investment of a Checkpoint Security System using RF labels or RF tags is remarkably fast.  Not only will it alert staff to unsold merchandise going out the door, but also the prevention factor alone is a value in itself.

The greater the risk of being caught, the greater the chance that a shoplifter will avoid a protected store and go to an easier target.

Checkpoint Systems with RF security labels and RF security tags can greatly enhance your efforts to control or stop shoplifting at your business.

Anti Shoplifting Checkpoint Tags are Alarming

Anti shoplifting Checkpoint tags used as part of a retail theft prevention plan along with Checkpoint Security Systems EAS protection of vulnerable high theft merchandise is alarming!

The shoplifters think it’s alarming because once the Checkpoint Security System is installed in the store, they will have to decide on another retailer to visit in order to continue to commit their crime undetected.  The customer can’t remove the Checkpoint tags once they’re attached.

The Checkpoint security tag is also alarming when it passes through the detection field of the Checkpoint Systems antennas located at the store’s entrance.  The audible alarm and flashing light (on most models) alert store staff to the fact that Checkpoint tags are still attached to articles that are leaving the store and require attention.  An employee using a special detacher specifically designed by Checkpoint Systems removes the tags at the point of sale.

Anti shoplifting applications for the Checkpoint security tags are designed for almost any type of merchandise, including specialty items.  The RF (Radio Frequency) technology used in Checkpoint Security Systems is the very latest and most advanced in the industry for retailers.  Also alarming for shoplifters is that the retailer can pick and choose which merchandise to protect.  Shoplifters will definitely avoid stores that utilize a Checkpoint Security System as part of its anti shoplifting strategy.  Apparel, sports gear, hardware, electronics, and almost any other type of merchandise you can imagine can be protected by one of Checkpoint Systems selection of hard tags or Checkpoint labels.

Checkpoint labels are best suited for items that a tag won’t work well on because of size or material, such as boxed or packaged items.

One thing a retailer won’t be alarmed about is the improvement in inventory shortage figures once an anti shoplifting program including Checkpoint Security Systems is used in his store.

The evolution of Checkpoint security tags.

I remember when I first started working in Loss Prevention.  The company I worked for used Checkpoint security tags.  It was a hardlines retailer so we primarily used the “soft” Checkpoint labels.  These were stickers with a barcode printed on them so they looked like a product UPC.  In fact, on the bottom of the sticker was the Radio Frequency lining that made these RF security labels sound the door alarms when the product was stolen.

These are great and can still be used today.  In addition, there are many other RF security labels and RF security tags than can be used to accomplish the same task, which is to stop shoplifting.  In addition, to the standard sticker RF labels, you can now get Checkpoint labels that are built into the hang tags of your merchandise.  The RF label is actually built inside of the tag and most shoplifters don’t even know.  You can also get Checkpoint labels that are sewn into the clothes themselves if you work in softlines.

Most softline retailers rely on hard RF security tags.  For this you can still get a variety of Checkpoint security tags.  There are now a half dozen different sizes and shapes for RF security tags so you can find the right tag for each different type of product.  You can also get Checkpoint security tags that have ink inside that “pop” if a shoplifter tries to remove the tag without the proper device.

It has always been a challenge to stop shoplifting, but RF security tags and RF security labels have come a long way to help with this struggle.

This Just In: The World is Not Square

Come to find out, the world is indeed round. Not only is this great big planet we live in not square but also the majority of items in this world are also not square.

While the notion that you were not aware that the earth is round is ridiculous, what you might not know is that not all RF labels are square.

Several years ago the people at Checkpoint had a brilliant revelation that not all the products being tagged had squared off edges. Since this flash of genius these folks have created a plethora of different Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint Security Tags to help retailers tag items that don’t fit the generic inch and a half square mold.

In my personal opinion, the best RF label they have is a round label that is about an inch in diameter. This RF label can be applied to the bottom of medicine bottles, almost anything in health and beauty care or any other item that might have caused an issue with standard RF security labels. Not to mention that in a lot of cases it is also more aesthetically pleasing.

For the retailer looking for a more sleek and sexy design, Checkpoint labels also offer a clear polyurethane label that can be placed directly over a barcode. This allows you to place RF security labels on items without having to cover up any instructions or ingredients that are listed on the packaging.

These are just a couple of the many different RF security tags that are offered to help you stop shoplifting from occurring in your business.

Checkpoint RF Security Tags and RF Security Labels for Merchandise Protection

There is no one in a better position to make decisions the use of RF security tags and RF security labels than the business owner himself.  Of course the decision should not be made without a thorough analysis of the factors that contribute to the inventory shrinkage problem and gaining all the input he can possibly get.

The shoplifting problem may be obvious.  The owner/manager may receive reports from customers or employees that have witnessed customer theft.  Merchandise may mysteriously disappear from display.  Empty packages and price tags may be found hidden around the store. There are any number of signs that may point to a big shoplifting problem. The most serious problem is inventory loss that translates into lost profits.

One of the most effective solutions to stop shoplifting comes from Checkpoint Security Systems.  The use of pedestals from Checkpoint Systems, along with Checkpoint RF security tags and Checkpoint RF security labels will not only alert store personnel when an item that has not been paid for is leaving the store or department, but will deter most shoplifters from even attempting to steal from the store.

Pedestals from Checkpoint Security Systems can detect merchandise of all kinds, large or small.  There are Checkpoint security tags designed to protect everything from eyewear to shoes to golf clubs.  Checkpoint RF security labels are used to safeguard groceries, boxes, packages, and certain types of apparel.   Almost any style or category of high theft merchandise can be protected by RF security tags or labels from Checkpoint Security Systems.

No matter the size of the business, a Checkpoint Security System and the use of RF security tags and Checkpoint labels will be cost effective because the profit gained from the sale of merchandise that would have otherwise been stolen will quickly cover the cost of the system.

The many faces of RF security labels …

Did you know that there are now many different types of RF security labels available?  The RF label is what you probably know as a sensor tag that goes on products and sets of that alarm at the door.  There are two main different types: RF security labels and RF security tags.  The RF labels are what we generally think of as “soft tags”.  These have an adhesive that sticks the RF label to the product.  The RF security tags are “hard tags” that clamp onto product and are harder to remove.  Both are good tools used to stop shoplifting.

One of the leading national providers of RF security tags and RF security labels is Checkpoint security.  They have their own brand of Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags.  They have gone even farther than most to offer different varieties of both to better help your business stop shoplifting.

Checkpoint security tags now come in a variety of sizes and shapes.  You can get tags with ink or just the standards hard tags.  There are small tags that are great for undergarments, accessories and display merchandise.  They also have the standard size hard tags that are easy to spot and help stop shoplifting by deterring the theft.

Checkpoint labels are also offered in a variety of different ways.  They have plain RF labels.  They have labels made to look like barcodes.  You can get labels embedded in the hanging price tag.  You can also get tags woven into the product yourself.  This is great for high end clothing retail.  These companies want the best in visual aesthetics without sacrificing security and this works perfectly.

Whatever you need for your business the solution is available.

Checkpoint security tags … your solution to Organized Retail Crime.

One of the most common methods to stop shoplifting is to use some type of RF label.  A RF label is a radio frequency label (or RF security tags as it is more commonly known) and is applied to merchandise in order to help stop shoplifting.  The RF security labels prevent shoplifting is that when the merchandise with the RF label goes through the door without first going through the register then an alarm is generated which will draw your employees attention to the theft in progress.

Thieves hate this.  Shoplifters want to do their evil deeds undetected since no one really wants to go to jail.  Checkpoint security tags are some of the best that I have used.  They are durable and hard to remove so groups who steal for profit (i.e. Organized Retail Crime (ORC) rings) don’t want to waste their time trying to remove the tags and they definitely don’t want the recognition they would receive from standing in the door with an alarm going off.  The result … they go bother someone else and leave your merchandise alone.

A few things to consider when using Checkpoint labels to make them most effective.  1) Use the right RF security tags for the right product.  You will want hard tags for clothes, handbags, shoes, etc.  Make sure you get the lanyards to go with the hard tags for the handbags and shoes as you don’t want to damage the product.  Use soft tags for package items.  2) Pick the right items to place RF labels on.  You don’t want to tag everything as it is too expensive.  Pick the high dollar / high theft items to tag.  There is no exact science to stop shoplifting so adjust as necessary to find the right solution for your location.

Labels or Tags? You Decide (cont.)

The benefits of using RF security labels are that they are easy to use, cost effective and with a plethora of different shapes and sizes, are ideal for many different applications. With the release of Checkpoint’s new EP (enhanced performance) RF label, you are able to receive the same detection capabilities that you would have gotten with a much larger tag in the past. Although the EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) system is the same, changes in the design of the RF labels have improved the effectiveness of the detection. You can apply these Checkpoint labels to almost any item that you would like to keep from leaving the location without your knowledge. Also, these RF labels will not have to be removed at the time of purchase. When the item is scanned at the point of sale the RF security labels are automatically deactivated, causing a seamless transaction and not adding any time to the routine of your cashier.

There are a few things to remember when applying Checkpoint labels. They are not as durable as RF security tags because they are in sticker form and are not in a hard case. The RF label is also more prone to being tampered with. Also, for the RF labels to be most effective it needs to be placed on a flat surface. If you place the sticker label on a significantly curved surface it can cause the tag to not be detected properly from the EAS system.

These are just a few things to keep in mind when deciding which RF label or Checkpoint security tags will work best to help you stop shoplifting.
