Bottle Locks Shut Down Shoplifter Opportunities

Bottle locks put the cap on retail liquor business’ shoplifting losses by reducing the opportunity to successfully get away with the goods.

Liquor retailers who are fed up with losing merchandise – especially high value high theft merchandise – to shoplifters have turned to bottle security in the form of the Alpha Security bottle lock to protect their inventory investment.

In a perfect world, no liquor bottle security would be necessary. Clothing security made fashionable. What???

Yep. I said it. Clothing security can be fashionable. We all know that in this day and age you have to put security tags on clothes in order to protect your inventory. One of the major downsides though is how it looks. We work in sales and sales are all about looks. That is why Checkpoint tags come in so many different sizes and shapes.

You can always get the trusty hard clothing security tags. But that does not look that great and can make trying clothes on hard, depending on the product. There are now a variety of sizes in hard clothing security tags that make them less noticeable and do not impede the “trying on” process. Is It Possible to Prevent Shoplifting In Your Stores?

Yes. It is very possible to prevent shoplifting in your stores. Shoplifting is a nuisance and if left unchecked, can ruin a business. So what can be done to prevent shoplifting in your stores?

Retailers have been battling shoplifting for many, many years. Of these years of battle, retailers can agree that shoplifting may never go away completely, but there certainly are ways to prevent shoplifting from occurring and greatly reduce the amount of loss incurred. Retail theft prevention is more than just a quick fix, but it is possible.

Most everyone is familiar with anti shoplifting devices such as EAS tags. Hopefully, you are familiar with Checkpoint systems product, the Checkpoint security tags. Many still don’t really have an understanding of how the Checkpoint security tags can really fight professional shoplifters and Organized Retail Crime rings. Here is an example of how a fully functioning Checkpoint security system can work for retail theft prevention.

I had a store using Checkpoint systems. One day the EAS alarm activated and the clerk looked up just in time to see a professional booster running out of the door with stolen product. Now I already hear the questions. If they got away where’s the retail theft prevention? Keep reading. In addition to the Checkpoint security tags, the store also had the Checkpoint systems CCTV system. They were able to go back on the DVR to find the shoplifter entering and get a good picture of his face. Management then showed the video to all of the employees and asked that they contact management if they saw that person.

Naturally, since the shoplifter was so successful the first time, he came back about a week later. The cashier saw the perp enter the store and immediately called the manager. The manager used the Checkpoint systems camera to verify that it was, in fact, the same guy and observed the shoplifter starting to conceal merchandise. The manager went ahead and notified the PD who headed that way. As the shoplifter attempted to leave this time the Checkpoint security system alarm sounded and the manager approached the shoplifter to ask for a receipt. As the guy started to flea he ran right into the waiting arms of the police and was promptly taken to jail.

It sometimes takes work to build your case, but the right anti shoplifting devices make the job a lot easier when properly used.

Alpha Security Wins Praises from The Little Guy

That’s right. Working in the field for many years has given me a rather personal relationship with Alpha Security products. I have had a much successful career recommending Alpha security products to various retailers who have put them to good use.

Prevent Organized Retail Crime with Clothing Security

A common practice amongst thieves is theft for resale. Organized retail crime impacts our businesses more than we sometimes realize, and businesses that sell clothing are not exempt. Groups of shoplifters have been known to enter businesses, grab handfuls of merchandise, and exit quickly without making an attempt to conceal the crime. Speed is the tool that they use to try and make their quick getaway.

Retail anti theft devices that do more than stop theft.

There are many different retail anti theft devices on the market today. One set of products that I absolutely have fallen in love with are the Safer Cases from Alpha. These products do more than just prevent shoplifting. They also add a positive visual aesthetic to your shelf presentation; which, from a merchandising standpoint is great for sales.

These retail anti theft devices are hard plastic boxes that you can lock your boxed or package products in. They are great because the customer can still handle the product and read the product information without having to wait on an associate to unlock a case for them. Once at the register the cashier has a key to unlock the Safer case and ring the product up. It can prevent shoplifting by keeping a shoplifter from being able to easily conceal the product. This Just In: The World is Not Square

Come to find out, the world is indeed round. Not only is this great big planet we live in not square but also the majority of items in this world are also not square.

While the notion that you were not aware that the earth is round is ridiculous, what you might not know is that not all RF labels are square.

Several years ago the people at Checkpoint had a brilliant revelation that not all the products being tagged had squared off edges. The evolution of Checkpoint security tags.

I remember when I first started working in Loss Prevention. The company I worked for used Checkpoint security tags. It was a hardlines retailer so we primarily used the “soft” Checkpoint labels. These were stickers with a barcode printed on them so they looked like a product UPC. In fact, on the bottom of the sticker was the Radio Frequency lining that made these RF security labels sound the door alarms when the product was stolen.

These are great and can still be used today. In addition, there are many other RF security labels and RF security tags than can be used to accomplish the same task, which is to stop shoplifting. In addition, to the standard sticker RF labels, you can now get Checkpoint labels that are built into the hang tags of your merchandise. The RF label is actually built inside of the tag and most shoplifters don’t even know. You can also get Checkpoint labels that are sewn into the clothes themselves if you work in softlines.

Most softline retailers rely on hard RF security tags. For this you can still get a variety of Checkpoint security tags. There are now a half dozen different sizes and shapes for RF security tags so you can find the right tag for each different type of product. You can also get Checkpoint security tags that have ink inside that “pop” if a shoplifter tries to remove the tag without the proper device.
