Stop All Kinds of Shoplifters with Bottle Security

Liquor stores and other businesses that sell wine and spirits are not just impacted by juveniles wanting to steal their party supplies. Adults young and old can be shoplifters and can steal from businesses that sell these items. You might be surprised to know who exactly is responsible for those losses that you have been suffering at the hands of thieves.

There are options available for bottle security. For example, the EASy bottle cap from Alpha security is a reusable cap that fits over your liquors and wines. This cap fits over the bottle’s existing cap, and is a bottle lock that prevents it from being opened. The bottle locks are removed at the time of purchase, by an employee using a key. The bottle locks are also able to be reused so you can keep your shelves stocked securely as you sell through your merchandise.

Liquor bottle security does exist, and its effects on your profits can be substantial. Shoplifters who would like a quick steal are deterred by these bottle locks, and even those that are more scheming understand that the wines and liquors would be a struggle to open without the key if they were to be successfully stolen.

Young or old, rich or poor, there are shoplifters amongst us. And these shoplifters impact on business is significant, costing honest customers and retailers millions each year. However, if you are serious about your business, and serious about your potential profits, then there are serious options available in bottle security. The EASy bottle cap from Alpha security is a proven tool to use for liquor bottle security. It can mean a world of difference to your business, your honest customers, and your bottom line.

Utilize security tags on clothes to ward off ORC theft of jeans.

For those of you not sure what ORC is; it stands for Organized Retail Crime.  ORC is credited with millions of dollars each year in stolen product.  Many small businesses have been completely decimated by ORC and numerous larger chains have still felt the impact that ORC creates.  By putting security tags on clothes you will go a long way to prevent being targeted by professional shoplifters.

There are several types of clothing security tags to choose from.  I suggest Checkpoint tags for several reasons.  For one, they work.  Some smaller EAS outfits have products that are not very good quality and you end up spending more in repair and service calls than going with a trusted brand.  Two, Checkpoint tags are recognized by professional shoplifters.  These persons make a living by stealing.  (And when I say living I don’t mean paycheck to paycheck living.  Many make 6 figures a year and live better than you and me).  They know the clothing security that works and the clothing security that doesn’t.  Just by using a recognized and trusted product you enhance the deterrent effect of putting security tags on clothes.

Anyone in softlines retail knows that jeans are the hot products.  It really doesn’t matter what brand, jeans sell on the street.  By putting security tags on clothes you force the thieves to do one of two things.  One they can bag up the product and walk out, but that will set off the clothing alarm at the door and gain them unwanted attention.  Now they have increased risk by coming back.  Two, they can try to defeat the clothing security tags which takes time and increases the risk of being caught.  Neither one is wanted by ORC groups and will force them to find other stores to steal from.

Retail anti theft devices a must for Pharmacies.

You may be wondering why a Pharmacy would need retail anti theft devices when the narcotics and “good” drugs are all behind the counter.  The reason is that there are plenty of over the counter (OTC) medications that are highly target for shoplifting.  In order to protect these products stores need to consider investing in retail anti theft devices in order to prevent shoplifting.

If you work in the Pharmacy business or sell OTC items in your store then you probably know there are a handful of products that can be used to make illegal drugs.  These products are hard to keep on the shelf for your legitimate clientele and you have the added responsibility to the greater good to try to keep your products from being used illegally.  In addition, there are just some popular items that are expensive and customers don’t want to pay for them.  With that said, I suggest Keeper cases from Alpha security as the answer to prevent shoplifting.  The Keeper cases are hard plastic cases that come in a variety of sizes.  They are made with intention of being just a little bigger than the product (so it will fit inside) without taking up unnecessary shelf space.

The Keeper cases have an EAS tag built in so not only do they prevent the customer from getting to the product, they also work with your existing EAS system to alert you of potential theft.  The Keeper cases also give you the flexibility to keep you products openly displayed which is better for sales.  In my company we have seen a noticeable increase in smoking cessation sales since we moved them from locked cases to the Keeper cases.  And the best part … we still are controlling shrink.

RF Security Tags … An industry staple for a reason.

RF security tags have been around for years.  You probably are more familiar with the common name of sensor tags.  In reality the “sensor tag” is operated on a Radio Frequency, hence the technical name of RF security tags or RF security labels.  While many aspects of retail have changed over the years the one that has remained constant is theft.  Additionally, RF security tags and RF security labels continue to be the best way to stop shoplifting in you store.

There are many different type of retailers in the market today.  As business leaders you know that there are no cookie cutter solutions to individual business problems.  For this reason I suggest looking into Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels for you business.  Checkpoint recognizes that every business is different and they have a large variety of Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags that can be used to custom fit a solution for your business.

There is a key difference between RF labels and RF tags that you need to know when looking to stop shoplifting in your store.  A RF label is what is commonly referred to as a “soft” tag.  It is an adhesive tag that sticks the box or package.  RF security tags are what we consider “hard” tags that attach with a pin or clamp to merchandise and require a deactivator to physically remove the tag before the product can be used.  It is important that take a hard look at the type of product needing to be protected and work with your Checkpoint representative to pick the right RF label or tag for your specific needs.

Theft from within-Atlanta Georgia

It’s unfortunate but internal theft or employee theft affects businesses more and more each year. The loss from internal theft dominates external theft or shoplifting. Business owners must realize that because your employees have full access to almost all your business assets, they have opportunity to steal. Co-workers can feel like family but you must put personal feelings aside and protect yourself and your business.

Employee theft examples include: cash shortages, falsifying paperwork, stealing of personal information from files or belongings, copying of keys, stealing of merchandise or business supplies. The list goes on. As a manager, there was a time when I felt a bit uneasy about a particular employee.

I decided to open an employee theft investigation. This file included notes of her behavior, schedule, register paperwork, credit card entries, refunds, etc; basically anything pertaining to this employee. Once while watching her, I noticed her extreme friendliest with a particular customer. The customer started to fill out a credit card application only something was missing, her identification.

The employee then pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket and she began to write down a social security number for the customer. Of course I could not believe my eyes. But felt a sense of accomplishment for going with my gut and opening up an employee theft investigation.

The employee then proceeded with opening up a line of credit and then charged several high dollar items on the new card. Then came the not so fun part. I had to speak with the employee on what just occurred.

Long story short, she admitted to taking social security numbers out of personnel files at the doctor’s office she worked full-time. The customer was a friend of her’s. Both were charged with identity theft and stolen merchandise.

Remember internal theft or employee theft cause more damage than any other. Go with your gut and open up an employee theft investigation. You never know it could lead to something big.

Checkpoint security tags applied at the manufacturer is the way to go.

We all know that it is essential element of retail theft prevention using anti shoplifting devices on our products.  We also know that it takes time and payroll to put these anti shoplifting devices on the product.  Now you can put that payroll to a much better use thanks to the Checkpoint Security System.

Checkpoint systems are constantly trying to make their retail theft prevention solutions better for your business.  One way they have done that is to work with many leading manufacturers to have their Checkpoint security tags applied before the products ever ships.  This means as soon as it comes to your store it can go straight to the shelf and is worry free.  This provides one less thing for your staff to have to worry about and still keeps the product safe.  It also means that you can reduce payroll or at least use it helping customers.

There are a variety of items that this service from Checkpoint systems is offered for.  They can put soft tags on boxed and package items.  One benefit is the Checkpoint security tags can be put inside the package making it harder for a skilled shoplifter to remove the tag.  The tags can also be built into the hang tag of apparel.  The shoplifters don’t know it is there, but your product it still protected.

In order to raise profits we as business leaders have to constantly challenge ourselves to work smarter and not harder.  I’m glad to know I have a good business partner with the Checkpoint security system to share that vision.

Bottle lock, bottle lock oh bottle, bottle lock.

Is stealing alcohol in your store like taking candy from a baby?  If so, then you need to invest in bottle security devices.  A great device that I use is the EASy bottle lock by Alpha security.  These bottle locks go over the spout of the alcohol bottle you want to protect and keep shoplifters from being able to get the “product” out.

There are several benefits to using bottle security.  One of the obvious reasons is it prevents theft.  Shoplifters don’t generally want to work for their product.  A second deterrent is the EASy bottle cap works with your existing EAS system to set off an alarm in the event of attempted theft.  Again, shoplifters don’t want to be noticed so setting off alarms is low on their list of wants.

Another benefit that Alpha security has created with their bottle lock is the ability to open display product.  If anything, we in the LP profession are quick to suggesting that stores lock up all their products in order to be safe.  Well, hear from this LP professional when I say throw the display cases away and openly display your product.  Of course, I only suggest open display when using bottle locks.  The benefit to openly displaying your items with a bottle lock is twofold.  One, it just plain looks better.  Two, you will increase sales by customers being able to handle the product and serve themselves versus having to wait for an associate to unlock the product and then having to wait in line to pay for it.  You can use bottle locks to cut out the middle man and service your customers faster and more efficiently without sacrificing bottle security.

Fully Integrated Tags are the new standard in clothing security.

We all know that in order to prevent shoplifting we have to apply security tags on clothes.  While we agree that clothing security is important, I still often hear complaints about the time and effort it takes for store personnel to apply the clothing security tags.  Now there is a better solution.

Checkpoint tags can be purchase as FIT or Fully Integrated Tags.  These clothing security tags are actually the hang tag.  Checkpoint creates the barcode, branding and other store specific data you want on your clothing hang tag and then place a clothing security tag inside.  It is a one stop shop.  You get the variable data tag that you need with the benefit of built in Checkpoint tags that work with your existing clothing alarm system.  This serves several functions.

The first function is clothing security.  You are putting security tags on clothes in order to prevent theft.  The second function is you make the garment stylish.  There are no visible tags to look at, but just the garment itself.  The third function is time efficiency of your staff.  No longer will your staff have to be tied down applying security tags on clothes.  They can instead be focused on your customers and sales.  Finally, you protect yourself from internal theft.  If the employees are putting the clothing security tags on then they can skip the items they want to steal that have not yet been tagged.  By having the manufacturer apply Checkpoint tags before the product even arrives to the store then you are also protecting yourself from employees who may want to take the product themselves.

RF security tags. More than your daddy’s old sensor tags.

For those who have been around retail for awhile, you have probably seen many different versions of sensor tags.  I remember, when as a consumer, I first started seeing retailers use sensor tags to stop shoplifting.  The systems would alarm at anything electronic.  Beepers, early cell phones and remote entry key fobs were all notorious for setting off the alarm as opposed to product.  That is not the case with Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags.

Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags are considered RF labels and RF security tags since the work on a Radio Frequency.  When you get your EAS system set up a technician will calibrate your system so that the door pedestals will pick up the specific frequency of your RF security labels and your RF security tags as opposed to all of those other items in the area.  So what does this mean for business owners?

One of the biggest positives to using RF security labels is actually customer service.  A) You increase customer service when you stop shoplifting and have the product your customers want available and ready to sell.  B) You increase customer service by significantly reducing false alarms.  With the old systems you never knew who was stealing and everyone was a suspect.  Now with the RF label you know the person setting off the system has product with a live tag.  Now they may be stealing or the cashier may have forgotten to remove or deactivate the RF label or tag, but you eliminate the false alarms due to electronics and other devices.  This equals the ability to still stop shoplifting and decreases the chance for a negative Customer Service situation.  Now aren’t you glad for modern technology?
