Employee Theft: Where did It all Go? Atlanta Georgia

Unfortunately, many retailers are asking the question, “Where did it all go?”.  The answer is disturbing but true, you paid someone to take it.  Employee theft is one of the primary reasons retailers experience millions in losses each year.  It seems comical really to think you actually pay someone to take advantage of your business.  Employee theft can be devastating and often the extent of the damage is not known unto it is too late to correct.  In my experience employee theft has caused many stores to go out of business as they were simply not able to produce profits amid the extensive and enormous amount of internal theft.

It is an elaborate game of cops and robbers and unfortunately there are more robbers than cops.  Internal theft continues to rise at an alarming rate.  Employers are using every opportunity they can find to take from their employers.  In an environment where consumers are spending less, business can not allow profit to simply walk out of their stores.  Internal theft has to be addressed and corrected, if a business is going to continue to be viable.  Employers must become aware of the many ways in which employees choose to take from their employers. The way in which transactions are conducted at the point of sale registers allow employees to take what they want without being noticed.

An effective employee theft investigation can help set an employer’s mind at ease and all without alarming a suspected dishonest employee.  Loss prevention professionals conduct thousands of internal investigations every month and are able to identify theft and resolve the matter quickly. An effective and well handled employee theft investigation does more than identify a dishonest employee; it helps prevent other employees from thinking that they can take from their employer. It is imperative if an employer has a suspicion that employee theft may be occurring at their business that they begin an employee theft investigation immediately. This will prevent you from having to answer the unfortunate question of, “Where did it all go?”

Shoplifting Prevention: Do you have a plan and a partner?Shoplifting Prevention: Do you have a plan and a partner?

Having an anti shoplifting plan in place for your retail location is smart planning.  Shoplifting has increased in this economic downturn and retailers with no anti shoplifting plan will be vulnerable to tremendous losses.  Before putting an anti shoplifting plan in place a retailer should assess their total retail theft prevention program.  A retail theft prevention program should be able to deter theft and protect merchandise inside a retail store.

One effective element of an anti shoplifting plan is the use of Checkpoint security tags.  The Checkpoint security tags are used with the Checkpoint security system.  The Checkpoint security system use RF technology to place an invisible field of protection around your retail store.  When a Checkpoint security tags that has been placed on merchandise is not properly removed or deactivated the Checkpoint security system alerts store personnel to the location.

The Checkpoint security system can be the center piece of a retail theft prevention program.  While working as a loss prevention manager, I have seen the security that Checkpoint systems provide to retail stores.  Checkpoint systems have solidified their value in the field of loss prevention.  I have seen shoplifters literally turn and run when they see a Checkpoint security system in use in a store.  It is the best of both worlds to have your merchandise protected in your store and a reliable partner on your side.  It is important to ensure that you have an effective retail theft prevention program in place to prevent your merchandise from being stolen out from under you. Therefore I would implore all retailers to make the investment in security tags.  Retailers should ensure that all employees are well trained on their shoplifting prevention program and Checkpoint systems.  Retailers should also make sure that perspective shoplifters are aware of the risk of getting caught, if they decide to shoplift from your retail location.

Keeping an Eye on Your DenimKeeping an Eye on Your Denim

Over the years I have spent working with clothing security, denim has always been one of the highest areas of shrink. Some of the appeal of denim comes from the high price point of designer labels. Some of it comes out of necessity, after all, who doesn’t want a great pair of jeans in their wardrobe?

Denim attracts the large scale shoplifter who comes in and picks up as many jeans as they can, and then they make a mad dash for the door. By having security tags on the clothes, we hear the audible clothing alarm go off as they attempt to leave. Often the sound of the alarm scares them into dropping the jeans as they escape into their waiting car.

Sometimes the thief tries to switch out their old pair for a new one in a fitting room. The more merchandise that has clothing security tags, specifically the Checkpoint tags, the less likely this sort of attempt will be successful. No one really wants to walk around with a Checkpoint tag on the bottom of their jeans. With out a detacher, it is near impossible to remove without damaging the jeans.

Having adequate security tags on clothes is a great step to ensuring clothing security, especially when it comes to denim. Checkpoint tags come in a wide variety to fit every style. They even have soft labels that can slide into a pocket, so you don’t have a bulky tag on a skinny pair of jeans. Think of them as a round the clock watch dog for your denim.

Simple Retail Theft Prevention that Works

Just like we tend to lock our cars when we want to protect what belongs to us, business owners need to protect the merchandise they offer for sale.  Shoplifting is prevalent where ever you may own a business, and it is not a good idea to leave your products unprotected, for whomever to grab and go.

Anti shoplifting techniques are important for successful businesses, and there are a variety of options available.  One of these is a Checkpoint security system.  Checkpoint systems are a proven contender in the world of retail theft prevention and can be utilized to reduce the losses that businesses are experiencing.

Checkpoint security tags are affixed to your high theft items and activate an alarm should they leave your business without being deactivated or removed.  Checkpoint systems show the potential shoplifter that you as a business owner take your merchandising seriously and like to protect your profits.  The mere presence alone of a Checkpoint security system can help prevent shoplifting by encouraging the shoplifter to go to another business that is not interested in retail theft prevention.

Anti shoplifting can be as simple as making sure you lock your car, and can be as second nature as that.  You own a business, you want to make a profit, and you need to prevent theft in your business in order to be able to do that.  Checkpoint systems can play a key role in that endeavor by offering security for your merchandise and peace of mind for you.  Retail theft prevention can be that simple, and yet the benefits so great.

Employ the Background Check Experts Along With Your Holiday Employees

As the holidays approach businesses are hiring more employees to prepare for the increase in customers.  Whether temporary or permanent hires, it is important to make sure that these potential hires are a good fit for your businesses.  It is hard to know much about a person from an application or an interview, so pre employment screening can help answer some of those questions you do not learn from that first meeting.

A criminal background check protects your assets on the front side by helping you not hire someone with a questionable history.  Losses suffered by businesses are caused more by employee theft than by customer theft, so background checks can help weed out the potential employees that may have stolen from businesses in the past.  Employee background checks are proactive instead of reactive in regards to loss prevention.

A background check company can look into the history of your potential hire and let you know what that person may not have disclosed during their interview or on their application.  There is no reason to risk your business and its assets by setting yourself up for an internal theft issue.  The background check experts can give you a full report about a potential hire and help you make a decision about whether or not to employ that person.  These types of decisions are important so that your business remains profitable and competitive.

The holidays are supposed to bring extra profits from extra customers coming into your business.  Do not lose those profits by hiring someone whose intent is to steal from you.  A pre employment screening can help you feel comfortable with your decision when hiring.

Secure your Alcohol and Your Liability with Bottle Security

Shoplifting and Internal theft can have significant impact on your business’s potential liability.  Most people tend to think of shoplifting and internal theft as a product of the apparel environment.  Like the apparel environment grocery, restaurants, and bars are victims of theft.  Theft of liquor is a significant factor in the overall loss of these types of companies.

Like any business, the service and grocery industries are beginning to take notice of these losses and are actively pursuing methods to prevent this activating.  Once such method that is in common usage, is employing liquor bottle security.  In the grocery industry, retailers have begun using bottle locks as a deterrent to shoplifting and to improve bottle security.  By employing a bottle lock, the retailer is able to make the theft a much more laborious task.  This prevents the opportunist shoplifter from having the chance to steal liquor.  This not only increases profit, but also creates a better environment for the honest customer.

The restaurant and bar industries are also subject to the theft of alcohol and bottle security should be a concern.  Liquor bottle security is an important deterrent to internal or employee theft in these industries.  Bottle locks can reduce the accessibility to your product, which can prevent your liability if it is to fall into the hands of minors.  Like the grocery industry, bottle security, more specifically bottle locks reduce the potential for loss.  The use of the bottle lock also gives the owner an idea of when and how the liquor bottle security is failing.  This can be accomplished when an owner finds removed or tampered bottle locks.

Business liability is a subject that any business minded individual should think of.  While shoplifting and theft can reduce a companies’ profit, a lawsuit can bankrupt a company and the potential exposure value of bad press can change the publics view forever.

There are many companies that provide this service.  One leader in this industry is Alpha Security.  Alpha Security provides the consumer with leading bottle locks.  Alpha Security’s premium product for bottle security is the EASy Bottle.  The EASy Bottle bottle lock allows the retailer to properly display their product and secure its contents from thieves.  The EASy Bottle provides the consumer with the peace of mind of security without interfering with product sales.

Focus on customers not shoplifters with clothing security tags!

Great customer service drives retail businesses. Without great service, customers won’t want to come back and continuing buying your merchandise. But how can you deliver great service if all of your focus is on shoplifters and potential thieves? Allow clothing security tags to deter the shoplifters and free you up to deliver the service that will drive customers to come back time and time again.

A few days ago at a store neighboring my work, a shoplifter ran out with several pairs of jeans that had no clothing security tags. The associates and managers were in a panic outside of the store calling the police and attempting to describe what the thief looked like as he ran down the street with their clothes. I couldn’t help but wonder how many potential customers could have received great customer service in the time the associates were busy with the thief. They could have sold hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise! If only they had clothing security.

Occurrences such as the one above could have easily been prevented had that store installed clothing alarms. Installing Checkpoint tags and clothing alarms throughout your store can free up your associates to fully focus on the customer. Not only can security tags on clothes deter shoplifters, they have minimal interference to the customer who can simply take them to the register to have the clothing security removed at the time of purchase.

Don’t be the store that is not protected. Install clothing security, such as Checkpoint tags, on your merchandise and allow your associates to focus on the customer.

RF Labels, RF Security Labels, or RF Security Tags: Many Names For an Effective Security Tool.

RF technology is quickly becoming a retail industry security standard.  RF labels, RF security tags, and RF security labels allow a retail business to secure their product with a very effective and non-invasive security tool.  These RF label, RF security labels, and RF security tags are a very effective tool to stop shoplifting and employee theft.  These two activities can have a negative impact on a retail business of any level.   They can affect the largest of multi-national corporations or the small business owner.

In response to the threat of these issues, Checkpoint Security has developed and supplies the Checkpoint Security Tag and the Checkpoint Labels.  Checkpoint Security can provide RF labels, RF security tags and RF security labels to address your businesses security needs.  I have worked with Checkpoint Security in my career and can attest to their business-to-business service and their knowledge of the retail industry.   I have used Checkpoint Security technology as a part of my district and regional loss prevention strategy.  The tools that the company provides have always had a positive impact on the security of my stores and have had an almost non-existent impact on the customer experience.  Their ability to stop shoplifting is substantial.

Much of the loss prevention theory is that limiting the opportunity of shoplifters is the best policy to stop shoplifting.  To limit or stop shoplifting, a retailer must create a sense of control in their stores.  This can successfully be done with the RF label or RF security tag.  It would be wise for any retail business, big or small to look into the Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint Security tags.

Internal theft and external theft which is worst? – Atlanta Georgia

In the retail industry external theft or shoplifting as it is commonly known is a part of doing business. Anyone who has worked in the retail industry has dealt with or actually seen a shoplifting incident during their career.  But the one problem that every retail industry dreads is internal theft. This issue causes retailer to deal now with employee theft problems. It is bad enough to worry about those individuals that come from the outside to steal, but now you have to conduct Employee theft investigation inside your organization.

You now have the employee’s that you count on to give proper customer service and represent your organization are now the subject of Employee theft investigation. During my career I have conducted hundreds on internal theft investigations. Most of the employee theft subjects are new employee’s that have just started, but you have those employees that have been with the organization for many years. So the first question that I always ask is why? Why after so many years would you steal from the company the answer varies? But the one constant during the employee theft investigation is that they didn’t think they would get caught.

Many internal theft issues can be prevented by following the safeguards that have been put in place. The minute these policies are not followed the chance for an employee theft incident to happen is imminent. So anytime you think that you can break protocol to finish your job faster. When you don’t take the time to log down who enters a security cage or who has the keys to that cage. How much money have you just cost your organization by not following policy.
