Hot new accessories – Checkpoint Tags

Did you watch the runway shows in Paris?  No?  Neither did I. I am always aware of the shows and that it is just a matter of time before they (or reasonable knock offs) begin to hit the shelves. The only reason I didn’t watch was a result of my preoccupation with a new shipment of clothing needing Checkpoint tags.

I am fortunate to work with a company that is adamant about placing security tags on clothes.  This company understands that consistency is crucial to proper clothing security as well as thoroughness of application. It has been documented time after time in post apprehension interviews with both shoplifters and employees with “sticky fingers”  that lawbreakers will diligently search out clothing that does not have a Checkpoint tag or any clothing security.

Security tags on clothes remain, above all, a visual deterrent. Clothing security tags thwart a shoplifter’s plan of attack to simply enter the store, steal stuff, and rush out the door. When they have to add a step – like “take security tags off clothes” – their plans falter. Potential shoplifters will most likely back off rather than run the risk of being caught in a situation that has suddenly left them unsure of the situation as well as their ability to thwart the system.

Plan now to include the hottest accessory around: clothing security tags.

Whether you own a high- end boutique with runway designs or last season’s middle market versions choose clothing security from a company that will offer creative solutions to your every requirement.

Something For Everyone – Alpha 2 Alarm

When I think about EAS alarms I have images of hard plastic tags sticking off of clothing and accessories. These are the tags that set off the alarms at the doors at the big retail shops that need them to prevent shoplifting. What doesn’t come to mind is liquor stores having the same retail anti theft devices and security in their stores.

Obviously the little plastic tags and pins are completely ineffective on a glass liquor or wine bottle. It used to be a shame that these hardworking shop owners were left with minimal protection to prevent shoplifting. As a small business owner with limited resources, there is no room for error or for the margin loss incurred by the theft of even one bottle.

Alpha Security changed all of that. They created a line of retail anti theft devices designed specifically for liquor and wine bottles. Alpha Security has a line of bottle locks that range from small clear caps to steel bands all embedded with EAS tags. Some of them even boast the alarms (like their Alpha 2 Alarm) hidden inside.

The Alpha 2 Alarm bottle locks will sound at the exit doors, as well as sounding inside the store of the Alpha 2 alarm is tampered with.

Visit the Loss Prevention Store for Alpha 2Alarm, Alpha 3Alarm, Alpha Fashion2, Alpha Jewel Lok, Alpha Nano Gate,  Alpha Shark Tag, Alpha Spider Wrap and other retail anti-theft devices from Alpha Security to use in conjunction with your Electronic Article Surveillance or EAS system that can help you prevent shoplifting in your business.

Safety and Pre-Employment Screening

Pre-employment screening is becoming a standard process for many businesses.  Many large corporations employ background check experts to work in teams in order to evaluate criminal background checks as well as employee background checks.

Smaller companies frequently do not have the funding for the increase in payroll required to perform this function which is almost always available to large companies.

This is where a trustworthy Background Check Company enters the picture. Background check experts skilled in performing pre-employment screening are standard with Background Check Company.

The background check experts deliver specialty services like background checks, criminal background checks, employee background checks, and other pre-employment screening services.  The execution of a comprehensive pre-employment-screening process prevents an employer from hiring a less than desirable individual at best and a thief at worst.

Insight into a potential employee’s integrity is provided with criminal background checks.  When hiring positions requiring leadership and responsibility this information is critical.  An employee background check examines the credentials and experience with objectivity.  This is especially important if the position requires a certain level of technical acumen.

Information as to the quality of employee as well as how former employers and peers view the candidate is provided by background checks. Background checks can also prevent an employer from hiring someone dishonest, under-qualified, or simply not the right fit.  Background Check Company provides all of these services for the business or individual.

Double Down- Liquor Bottle Security

Having a bottle lock on your merchandise will protect your inventory from outside theft. When you experience theft, you suffer a two-fold loss. The first loss is that of your inventory and the dollars. The second loss comes from the loss of customers that come to your store.

You see, when customers can’t find what they are looking for, they go somewhere else. When your inventory is stolen, it is not always immediately discovered missing. That means the shelf stays empty and the customers leave empty handed. There is no good way to tell how many sales are lost because customers leave due to improper inventory levels.

Bottle security is easily maintained with the use of bottle locks. Once the bottle lock is placed, it is near impossible to remove without the proper equipment. The secret to your success will literally be in your hand with the EASy Bottle S3 or hand key detacher.

The Alpha security line of bottle locks provides product denial to anyone who does not have a key or detacher. The EASy bottle lock is a cap that fits over the top of your wine or liquor bottles without harming the caps or corks, preventing access to the contents inside. By limiting the keys or detachers, you provide enhanced bottle security from not so honest employees.

Another Day of Meetings – Could Have Been Attending a Loss Prevention Workshop instead

My husband and I have spent years as retail managers. As a result, we have both spent our share of “wasted hours” in meetings where there was no useful information. We would inevitably walk away from those meetings feeling even more dejected about our jobs and the hours of productivity lost because we were stuck in a poorly planned and poorly articulated meeting. Our minds were wandering and thinking about employee theft and shoplifting. We could think of more ways to steal merchandise.

It was always unfortunate because there was a lot of good information that could be garnered from those meetings, if the presenter knew what they were doing.

All too often the presenter would shift through paperwork looking for answers to topics they were not fluent in. The “errs” and “umms” would be so distracting that by the time they actually started talking, our brains would have wandered off to what the lunch menu for the day would be. Kind of makes the price of well conducted Loss Prevention Seminars well worth the money.

This is not the way to run a meeting. When you send your employees and managers through Loss Prevention Training, it is critical to your success that the moderator is fluent in the topic at hand. A Loss Prevention Workshop should be informative and educational. It is a chance for everyone to understand how to be eyes and ears in the workplace.

If your trainer looses their audience, you loose out on the information given and the hours of misplaced productivity.

Preventing Internal Theft

While it did occur, it was very rare that potential employees went out of their way to get hired to a particular company just so they could steal. Background checks can only tell you what someone has done in the past, not what they will do in the future. That is why it is so unfortunate when you are face with an employee theft situation. One of the hardest parts of working is retail management, is dealing with employee theft– alternately referred to as internal theft. It’s a personal blow to think that someone you know, someone you trust, is stealing from you and your company.

During the interview portion of employee theft investigation, most employees said that they stole because they couldn’t afford the items. In my experiences dealing with employee theft investigations, it is often an unforeseen circumstance that makes these associates change their honest ways. It could be that a spouse lost their job, or medical bills came sneaking up on them.

While you can’t control the outside circumstances of every employee’s life, there are some steps you can take in preventing internal theft. By using anti theft devices like pedestals, hard tags and labels you can often keep your employees honest by making them realize how hard it will be to discreetly steal from your store. Providing visual cues like these retail anti theft devices, goes a long way to preventing employee theft.

You have options with Checkpoint Tags

Awareness of how many thousands of different items a store can contain is inevitable if one works Loss Prevention (or Operations Support as some presently call it) to implement and enforce retail theft prevention in order to stop shoplifting in one of the larger stores.

With so many different types of products (clothing, electronics, furniture, tools, etc.), it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the need to protect every single piece of inventory.  However, it is extremely rare for even the most stringent loss prevention policy to dictate that the two dollar items at the impulse rack require Checkpoint Security Tags.

Most stores have a guideline of price points for each category of inventory sold in the store.  But not every piece of inventory can necessarily benefit from utilizing the identical anti-shoplifting equipment as its store-front neighbors.

Winter jackets can benefit from Checkpoint security tags and have little use for the application of Checkpoint labels.  Similarly, the DVDs that one stocks require Checkpoint Labels because nothing else can be attached to them.

This is why there are options in the retail theft prevention world – measures used to protect products must vary because products come in every imaginable shape and size.

If you want to be confident that your store is making the most of the Checkpoint Security System previously installed, it is imperative to be sure that you possess enough variety in the anti-shoplifting suite to cover all items you need to protect.

Visit the Loss Prevention Store to find anti-shoplifting systems and devices including Electronic Article Surveillance or EAS system by Checkpoint Systems and stop shoplifting once and for all in your store.

Are the sounds of the Clothing Alarm haunting you?

The sound of the clothing alarm used to haunt me in my dreams for a couple of reasons. One reason was that the cashiers in my store frequently forgot to deactivate or detach clothing security tags. In reality some would forget; others claimed they knew which pieces were tagged, so they only needed to deactivate those particular items. Needless to say, clothing alarms found a way to go off at the doors almost continually throughout the day.

Another reason for my frustration was that I was new to the business and I would race to my camera system to discover who set the alarm off every single time the alarm sounded.  Even if they were already out the door, I was determined to catch the thief in the act of stealing.

I no longer feel the need to prove something to myself or to my stores. I have also learned to train my cashiers more effectively on the value of proper deactivation. I have learned how to explain all components of clothing security as well as customer service and how they are interconnected.

I also learned to emphasize how critical it is to deactivate correctly the first time because it creates so much less work for everyone in the end.

It was as much a lesson for me to learn as it was for my cashiers. Those early experiences have fueled my success throughout my career.

What is the relationship between Prom and a Jewel Lok?

Prom is a magical time in a young girls’ high school experience. The anticipation and excitement of being asked to a formal dance is pivotal in the sequence of events leading up to the big night.  The dinner and dance is a gateway into the “adult” world. There is even the glamour of riding around in a limo for some. It is truly a memorable night. Nobody could be considering talking about Prom and Retail anti-theft devices in the same sentence, right?

Unfortunately, it can also be a very expensive night. By the time you add up the shoes and hair and dress, dinner, limo, corsage, accessories… the expenditure can become equally memorable.

With all the expense and peer pressure to look one’s best, some may turn to shoplifting to supplement their pocketbook rather than forgo an added expense like accessories. Unfortunately it is not uncommon for peer pressure to seduce an impressionable teenager.

It goes without saying as a retailer that your goal must be to continually improve your store’s bottom line by implementing procedures and systems that will effectively prevent shoplifting. Utilizing the most up-to-date retail anti-theft devices must become a priority to stay ahead of the game. Using Jewel Lok for accessories will more than pay for itself in peace of mind and the bottom line when Prom season rolls around.

Our Jewel Loks, specifically designed for accessories like earrings, replace flimsy backs with embedded soft tags that can be discarded. Jewel Loks keep everything in place until purchase and make accessories practically impossible to steal.

Become proactive; use Jewel Lok to keep your accessories under the kind of lock and key that assures your inventory is well protected from the temptations that sometimes overwhelm the Prom shopper.

Visit the Loss Prevention Store to find retail anti-theft devices that can be used in conjunction with Electronic Article Surveillance (or EAS) systems that can help prevent shoplifting year round in your business.

Are you asking the right questions as part of Pre-Employment Screening?

Getting the answers you need to hire a suitable and qualified candidate can be challenging. Standard job applications only cover the basics of the position applied for – availability, previous work history, and education.

Resumes are somewhat better, they are usually more descriptive as to what an applicant does or did at their previous places of employment; however, they can also contain a web of deceit.

Without running background checks in order to verify information, who can know if or how much embellishment is conveyed in either the job application or a resume. Background checks are also somewhat limited in what they can uncover.

Many employers, for example, will often only release the dates that an employee worked for their company. They may choose not to state the reason why the person is no longer working with the company, leaving it up to the applicant to state the reason as to why they no longer work for that company.

Because they are adept at the process of calling an applicant’s personal and professional references, the background check experts are better equipped to uncover the truth.

Did you know that references are frequently unaware that they have been listed on an application? They may also not be clear about what they should or should not say about someone, thus giving too much or too little information than they should.

The background check experts are also adept at asking non-work related questions in order to obtain the answers really needed. Do you want to know what a reference really thinks? Ask the reference if they would let the applicant house sit or baby sit for them. This question cuts to the chase and you will have your answer.
