Checkpoint Labels conveniently are used for retail theft prevention, but in a different way than Checkpoint Tags are. Where as the tags are designed to be visible to shoppers and shoplifters, the labels are usually hidden form view.
Checkpoint Labels are put in boxes, or inside of a pocket. Sometimes they are on the outside of a clamshell package. 
Deactivated at the point of sale, but they are not removed from the merchandise, Checkpoint labels are the better solution for quick customer checkouts. Checkpoint Systems provides the deactivator pad that deactivates the labels. As long as the label passes over the deactivator pad, the label will be deactivated.
Checkpoint Tags on the other hand, are hard plastic tags used in almost every major retailer for retail theft prevention.

There are some forms of return fraud that is very clearly illegal, however wardrobing retail is not one of them. Most state legislation only says that a retailer must post their return policy in a prominent location. They say nothing about how a retailer outlines what is acceptable within those policies.
Since there are still a fair amount of retailers that welcome back refunds of merchandise in any condition, it makes it even harder to form actual legislation on wardrobing.
 Would you be happy if state laws outlined exactly how your return policy should read? Probably not. Because there are so many variables and variations, it would be difficult to find a universal return policy that retailers would find neither too strict nor too lenient.
That leaves it up to the individual retailers to create their own return policy as well as finding clear-cut ways to discourage wardrobing retail within their stores.
Some retailers have found success through having an “all sales are final” policy. Simple and effective; no one can abuse a policy that has no margin for exception. Long Term Payout- Checkpoint Systems

One of my retail companies signed on with Checkpoint Systems for their installation and maintenance of their new door pedestals and the corresponding Checkpoint tags for anti shoplifting.
The contract they signed also included a service contract for their camera system and other video and recording equipment. They thought they were completely covered.
They knew that Checkpoint tags are pretty low maintenance, and the door pedestals generally have minimal issues beyond the annual servicing and testing. Where they really wanted the service contract was with the camera system. It had been patch worked together over the years as funds had become available to invest in a camera or DVR system.
As the cameras would slowly break down, they discovered that Checkpoint Security Systems are limited on what they could do to repair them. Because most of the cameras had been bought at a discount, they were off brands with limited warranties.
The end result was that we spent more to replace the camera systems with proprietary branded Checkpoint Security Systems components. If you do not keep your store, clean, organized, and recovered promptly, a shoplifter can slip by undetected. Creating a Cash Overage- Internal Theft

 It was by chance that we discovered our latest internal theft case. We had just received a shipment of a particular new product. A few days later, we were out of stock on that item, but we didn’t see the sales we should have on it.
After beginning to review the journal tape, we noticed that at the end of the day there had been several voided cash transactions. Many of which had involved this new item. When we started to suspect internal theft, we began to review journal tapes from other days. 
We noticed a pattern. A particular closing manager would have several cash transactions voided out just before store closing. Some of the transactions were ones that had occurred earlier in the day before she even got to work.
We watched video from the cash office during her closing shifts and discovered that she would take money out of the tills and put it in her purse.
She admitted that she would search the journal tapes for cash transactions and then post void them out. She would take that dollar amount in cash for herself-, which is why there wasn’t a cash shortage. Because the customer was leaving with the merchandise the shortage came from the inventory losses.
In essence she had eliminated the sales causing the inventory to leave the store unaccounted for. Because the sales were originally paid for in cash, the transaction void caused unaccounted for cash in the register. The employee took the cash for her own thinking that she had eliminated the trail to her employee theft.
