In the Market – Security Tags on Clothes

Now the market has a new option for security tags on clothes like lingerie or other delicates – the Multi Tag by Alpha Security. These clothing security tags have a different design. Instead of using only one pin and a back, the Multi Tag uses a two-pin system. By eliminating the need to pierce the merchandise, you eliminate the risks of snagging or damaging these delicate fabrics.

There are two pins that stick out on either end of a flat bar. The bar is only about an inch wide, which makes it easy to use on small undergarments. These two pins stick into a plastic back that houses the clothing alarm components. When the two sides of the clothing security tags are clicked together, a small gap is created. It is in this gap that the merchandise is situated for proper usage of the tag. Don’t worry, the gap isn’t open in a way that a thief could pry to two pieces apart and defeat the tag.

The merchandise is run between the two pins and secured with the back. The pins can flank things like the thin straps commonly found on lingerie or swimsuits. These tags can even be used for accessories because the overall size of the tags is relatively small.

Stay Positive – Retail Theft prevention

Where do you fall when you look at your financials? Are you in the positive, or are you running deficits? If you have a shortfall, is it because you are experiencing discrepancies with your perpetual inventory? If so, there are a few options you should be aware of, especially if you are having issues due to a lack of retail theft prevention.

The best way that I have found to stop inventory discrepancies is to understand the three ways to shrink, or lose, merchandise. They are employee theft, shoplifting and operational breakdowns. Once you have a way to define your losses, you can start to find ways to change those losses. Remember, if you can measure it, you can manage it.

If you look at where most losses come from, it will probably be from theft. Having anti-shoplifting tools to stop shoplifting will also positively impact your losses from employee theft as well. It has been statistically proven that having Checkpoint systems in place in your retail establishment will significantly reduce your inventory losses.

Retail theft prevention will quickly fall into place with the Checkpoint systems. Shoplifters know not to mess with the system, and your employees know they can no longer mess with you.

Vendor Potential – Bottle Security

We see soda vendors frequently committing fraud in restaurants or other general store situations. Liquor and alcohol distributors are no different, especially if the individual reps work on commission. When a vendor travels to so many different stores, they start to develop a sense for who is using bottle security and other precautionary measures, and who is open for the taking

One of the most common ways is by falsifying the shipments. It is important to verify the manifests on each of the shipments to the actual product being received. I see situations where instead of a premium liquor being delivered, the store gets a case of well instead.

Another way the vendors steal from you is by taking back outdated product and either taking extra bottles, or by taking more expensive bottles than what they give you credit for. If you can, use the EASy bottle to prevent this kind of switch.

The vendor can’t take the high-end goods that still have bottle security on them. The Alpha Security Bottle Locks prevent anyone, including vendors, from taking bottles of alcohol and liquor. With the bottle locks still on, you can then verify each bottle is correct and that were given proper credit from the vendor. It would be very brazen for a vendor to try and walk out of a store with bottles that still have the bottle locks attached to them.

Creating a Safe Work Environment – Background Checks

Who would you rather have working for you? Someone who is responsible and alert? Or someone who is reckless with themselves and others? Yep, someone who is responsible is the ideal employee. Conducting a background check is a good way to decipher if an applicant is responsible.

If someone has been in criminal, financial or legal trouble, they have been reckless with themselves. For whatever reason, they did not hold themselves to a higher standard. By comparison, someone who has stayed out of trouble has been more responsible for themselves and their actions.

If a future employee has not proven to be responsible for themselves, why would we believe that they would miraculously be responsible with others?  An extension would be that they might not be diligent in protecting the store, your customers and your other employees from accidents.

Creating a safe work environment takes the responsibility of each and every employee in your business. They are the ones that will quickly respond to a spill or a wet floor. They will report or repair broken fixtures or ladders.

A background check won’t tell you who is a safe person, they will only tell you about the ones that have previously engaged in unsafe behaviors.  Pre- employment screening that shows results of violence or neglect are not employees who will generally create a safe environment.

There is a difference between not creating an issue and creating a safe environment. You want the employees who are going to take that extra step to keep themselves and everyone around them safe.

Getting Through – Employee Theft

One of the more complicated employee theft incidents I investigated was tricky because I could find no clear-cut explanation that made sense to the associate in order to explain the fact that they were indeed stealing.

Ordinarily when I conduct the interview for employee theft, the employee being questioned is aware of their wrongdoing. They may attempt to justify, or deny, or blame someone else, but in their conscience, the employee knows what they are doing is wrong.

This particular store had a cosmetics department with testers for eye shadow, lipsticks, and of course, perfume at the different manufacturer’s counters. It wasn’t uncommon to see an employee occasionally walk by and give a little spritz as they walked to their selling department.

Sometimes an employee would try a new shade of lipstick on a break. The employees were respectful for the most part and often purchased the items they tested. We stayed out of the way because this was no different from how we would treat a customer doing the same thing.

An employee came fuming to me one day because another employee made a habit of applying their full makeup every day from the testers. This employee would then take the lipsticks and eyeliners with them.

It was a hard sell when I talked to this employee because the makeup had no actual retail value. I explained moderation, I explained respect for other associates, and I explained employee theft and company property. Nothing resonated with this employee.

While this employee is no longer employed with the store, I think she still wants to believe that it is OK to take something that doesn’t belong to her, as long as it doesn’t have a price tag.

The Right Fit – Clothing Security

Moving Day can be a real pain; the packing, lifting, hauling, and then unpacking once one gets everything into the new place.

Oftentimes, I have a difficult time figuring out where to put everything in the new place. There was a rhyme and reason at the old place. Storage and organizers were tailored to work with that space’s particular nooks, crannies, and idiosyncrasies. Most of it will never fit in the same way at the new location.

You wouldn’t expect all your things to fit perfectly within a new space or situation, so why expect your clothing security tags to be a universal fit?

You must implement your Checkpoint tags to work effectively for security tags on clothes just as you must take the time to choose the best storage pieces so that your new space will be clean, organized, and efficient.

Security tags on clothes work only if they can be attached correctly and in a useful manner. You are missing a huge opportunity if you are trying to make only one or two types of Checkpoint tags apply in every situation.

Checkpoint tags are more than just a hard tag and a soft label. Checkpoint has spent countless hours perfecting their products so that they cover the spectrum of challenges that clothing security presents in an ever-changing environment.

The Old Stand By – Alpha Security

I can’t think of a time when Alpha Security hasn’t been a part of our daily operations. It seems like they have been around forever, and probably for good reason.

Who is Alpha Security, you say? I guess I should back up a bit. Alpha Security is a highly reputable company that designs, sells, and innovates retail anti-theft devices. Their whole mission is to find comprehensive tools to prevent shoplifting for retailers both big and small.

Their mission is to reduce both shoplifting and employee theft by using their retail anti-theft devices. They took the basic EAS tag and improved it by making them work for specific situations. There aren’t many companies out there that are interested in doing that.

Most of the other companies only want to see what is currently out on the market. They feel that a tag is a tag is a tag. If it works, why try to fix it?

Not so here. Innovation speaks volumes. Why would you go for a one size fits all solution when your security problems range in size and severity?

Visit the Loss Prevention Store for Alpha 2Alarm, Alpha 3Alarm, Alpha Fashion2, Alpha Jewel Lok, Alpha Nano Gate,  Alpha Shark Tag, Alpha Spider Wrap and other retail anti-theft devices from Alpha Security to use in conjunction with your Electronic Article Surveillance or EAS system that can help you prevent shoplifting in your business.

Stuck on you – Checkpoint Labels

I recently purchased a bottle of cologne for my husband. It was a special present for him, so I actually wrapped the box instead of just throwing it in a gift bag. As I started to measure out the wrapping paper against the box, I realized there was a Checkpoint label on the outer wrapping of the box.

Because I can get a little particular about things, I knew the wrapping paper would not lay flat with the Checkpoint label still on the box. Silly me, I figured I would just pick the label off of the box.

How wrong was I!? I can tell why the retailer where I purchased the cologne would use the Checkpoint systems to stop shoplifting. This label was stuck on solid. When I say stuck, I mean the thing didn’t budge at all. I figured it would take a little bit of effort, but because it was on a smooth plastic wrapping, it would leave a residue, but would come right off.

No such luck. I ended up just leaving the label on instead of running the risk of destroying the outer packaging. It was pretty reassuring to see how well it adhered instead of falling or peeling off.

Not Unlike Online Dating – Background Checks

Trying to determine what a person is actually like is one of the parts of reviewing job applications that I thoroughly dislike. The standard, fill-in-the-blank application can be quite useless and reading through a resume or online profile is often even less helpful.

It sometimes feels like I am engaged in a bad online dating program. Applicants are doing their best to come across as successful winners. Unfortunately reality is often far removed from what is often presented in these standard forms of measurement designed to facilitate the employment process.

It is often impossible to differentiate studs from duds because applicants have an uncanny ability to manipulate data and put their own spin on job descriptions and responsibilities. Job applicants will never tell you that they were terminated for theft or poor attendance. Neither will job applicants admit that they slacked off at their jobs and their bosses were happy to see them quit.

This is where the background check experts can drill down to get the truth of the matter. They have the ability to run background checks that include both an employee background check, as well as a criminal background check.

Background check experts can also call references to confirm that the person actually exists, and whether or not they would want to work with the applicant again. The experts will then review their findings from the criminal background check and the employee background check to determine if applicants measure up to what they have presented.

Interviewing references along with running background checks will pull together a more complete applicant profile than it is possible to achieve without using the expertise of a background check company.

Keep it Simple – Bottle Locks

Bottle security has never been simpler. A few moments of your time to apply the bottle lock is all it takes. No more locking away expensive wine and liquor bottles. Your real customers have full access while your shoplifters are left with product denial. This type of bottle security is so easy to apply and is so effective at reducing your losses; you could even use bottle locks on all of your bottles regardless of price point.

Simply put, if a thief cant get to the alcohol inside, why would they want the bottle? The bottle lock is a simple cap that is placed on the mouth of the bottle preventing access to the contents inside. The bottle locks can only come off with the S3 detacher or Alpha Security EASy bottle hand keys, depending upon which product you choose.

Bottle security is easily maintained with the use of a bottle lock. Once the lock is placed, it is near impossible to remove without the proper equipment. The secret to your success will literally be in your hand with the S3 or EASy Bottle hand key detacher.

So why would you choose any other system. The simple way is the easy and cost effective way. There is no need to look anywhere else to get the job done when you already know the best way possible.
