Retail theft prevention at its finest…

There are many different retail theft prevention devices on the market today.  When making the decision to invest in anti shoplifting tools, one must take several factors into consideration.  One factor is price.  As business leaders we are all concerned with controlling expenses.  Another factor is quality.  It is not beneficial to spend money on equipment that does not work reliably and you really don’t want to have to continue to spend more money fixing equipment.  Another factor is recognition.  Just like consumers trust name brand product and will spend the extra money because of the logo on the product.  That logo represents the above mentioned quality.  The same thing goes for anti shoplifting devices.  Shoplifters know what products are reliable and work and which ones don’t.  This knowledge will play a large roll on whether they will test your system or not.

One solution that I believe in is the Checkpoint security system.  Checkpoint systems is a leader in innovative anti shoplifting technology.  They are, first and foremost, a quality product.  You can trust that your Checkpoint security system will work and work well. Secondly, for the quality it is reasonably affordable.  Checkpoint systems also has many different solutions so it is easy to customize a solution for your business so you pay for what you need and you are not stuck paying for equipment that you may not need.  Finally, Checkpoint systems are known.

Shoplifters know all about Checkpoint security tags and how hard they are to defeat.  One of the main reasons is that there are so many different options.  Checkpoint security tags come in many shapes and sizes.  They can be embedded in a hang tag or woven into the product itself.  This makes beating the system hard so many shoplifters won’t even try.

Protect Clothing with Checkpoint Tags

My team recently attempted to detain a shoplifter that spent just five minutes in our store, but filled her purse with over $100 worth of merchandise.  She ran when approached but was later located by police.  The merchandise was recovered this time, but can you imagine the loss our business would have incurred if customers like this visited our store all day long?  Even at $100 per visit that loss would add up quickly, significantly decreasing our profits.

For businesses that sell clothing, this type of “grab-and-go” theft can still occur.  Since the thefts are often for return fraud or for resale, the shoplifter does not have to even take the time to look at sizes.  Security tags on clothes can help prevent this type of theft by being a visual deterrent to the shoplifter, telling him or her that you are serious about clothing security.

Clothing security tags attach to your high end and high theft clothes, sounding a clothing alarm should the item leave your business without being purchased.  Checkpoint tags are removed by your employees at the time of purchase, and can be reused on items as you sell through your products.  It is a minimal investment that can produce real results, combating loss caused by shoplifters.

Clothing security can help deter these grab and go thieves, or other types of shoplifters that may come into your business.  You and your employees, despite your best efforts, cannot watch every customer the entire time they are in your business.  Security tags on clothes can do some of that work for you by being a deterrent and encouraging the shoplifters to go elsewhere.

Falling Leaves, not Falling Profits

With fall in the air and schools back in session, a lot of college towns are on red alert. An influx of students equals an influx of liquor sales and an influx of theft. What is one to do about liquor bottle security? The answer is EASy- er than you might think. Checkpoint offers a wide range of bottle security with their Alpha Security and EASy Bottle locks.

Simply put, if a thief cant get to the alcohol inside, why would they want the bottle? The bottle lock is a simple cap that is placed on the mouth of the bottle preventing access to the contents inside. The bottle locks can only come off with the S3 detacher or EASy bottle hand keys, depending upon which product you choose.

Bottle security has never been more simple. A few moments of your time to apply the bottle lock is all it takes. No more locking away expensive wine and liquor bottles. Your real customers have full access while your shoplifters are left with fill product denial. This type of liquor bottle security is so easy to apply and is so effective at reducing your losses, you could even use bottle locks on all of your bottles regardless of price point.

Cycle counts are a great way to assist in the fight to prevent shoplifting.

As business owners and operators we all understand the reality that shoplifting happens in our stores.  I think it is safe to say we all understand that we have to put measures in place to prevent shoplifting due to the financial impact that it causes. There are many ways to protect a business from shoplifting.  In most stores we use retail anti theft devices such as EAS tags, Keeper cases, Spider Wraps, etc.  One tool that I find is commonly missed is the use of audits such as cycle counts.

While it is great to use retail anti theft devices to prevent shoplifting, we must also track our high theft merchandise to make sure the retail anti theft devices are working.  If you simply put an EAS tag on an item (let’s say a drill for example sake) and you never track your inventory then how do you really know if you have provided a sufficient solution?  A cycle count is a routine inventory audit designed to track losses in order to determine if your anti theft solutions are working and to also help investigate losses.

If you find that every time you count your high theft product you have more shortages then you may consider using a different approach such as a Spider Wrap or other retail anti theft device.  You may also shorten the period of time between counts to try to narrow down the losses in an effort to pinpoint who is taking the product or to determine if you problem is related to employee theft or shipping errors as opposed to shoplifting.  Never forget that there are numerous ways to take losses and shoplifting is only one piece of that puzzle.

CCTV essential for employee theft investigations – Atlanta Georgia

For those who have spent any time in business you know that you have employee theft.  In retail we often refer to this as internal theft since the theft is happening inside the company.  For retail, employee theft is linked to between 45-55% of most companies overall shrink.  In order to combat the internal theft we have to conduct an employee theft investigation.

There are numerous ways to conduct an employee theft investigation and numerous tools that can be used.  One major tool is the use of CCTV.  Something I tell all of my staff is that there is a major difference between what you know and what you can prove.  We have all been in situations where we “knew” what a particular employee was doing or we “knew” that a particular employee was up to no good.  The problem comes when we have to “prove” wrong doing in order to get a termination, avoid paying unemployment and in some cases make a successful prosecution.

One of the best ways to have proof is by using CCTV.  Checkpoint makes a quality CCTV system that can be as advanced or basic as your individual needs are.  I recommend that all stores have several cameras in key areas.  You will want to have coverage of all registers, cash office and doors.  Manager’s offices, receiving and floor cameras are a bonus, but you don’t have to have those.  You will find that most employee theft happens at the registers so those are the most important.  I have found that the majority of internal theft occurs with cash or with cashiers under-ringing product or just giving it away for free.  Having cameras in these key locations will go a long way to helping your employee theft investigation end with enough proof to win your case.  While these cases can be done without video, it certainly makes things harder.

Protect Your Leather Items with Clothing Alarms

At the retail store I work at, our leather items are the most expensive and sought after by thieves. The high price tag equates to a higher resell value for those who want a five finger discount. This is why we always ensure we place clothing security tags on those pricey leather jackets. These Checkpoint tags are an indispensible resource for keeping those items on the shelf. Without security tags on clothes, thieves think it’ll be worth the risk of getting caught if they can get away with a $300 jacket.

In my experience, the 3Alarm clothing alarms are an excellent fit for any heavier jackets especially with the winter months fast approaching. The cable lock system slides right down the jacket arm and securely locks at the bottom. The great part about the 3Alarm is the ability for your customers to be able to try on the jacket without removing the clothing security tag. This enables an ease of access for the customer while maintaining a sense of control to tempted shoplifters.

The Checkpoint tags are tough, too. Not only does the size of the clothing alarm allow for easy access for the customer, but the clothing security tag material is not easily tampered with. Shoplifters are familiar with clothing security and they know the time spent attempting to remove the security tags on clothes only increases the risk of getting caught. That risk is not worth the reward, so next time the shoplifter will choose the store without clothing security. Don’t be the store that’s not protected. Make it tough on the shoplifters and force them to go somewhere else.

Shoplifting and Retail Theft Prevention

Shoplifting can be a serious problem for any retail business.  It is estimated that shoplifting accounts for nearly half of all retail loses and can turn a profitable into a problem store.  This activity can negatively impact a retail business’s bottom line and create an uncomfortable shopping environment.  As a result of this activity, many retail businesses are investing in anti shoplifting systems.

Many of these companies are turning to Checkpoint Systems to fulfill their anti shoplifting needs.  Checkpoint Systems provides a variety of security solutions that will meet a retail business’s needs.  One of these solutions is the use of Checkpoint Security Systems.  These systems most often use Checkpoint security tags.  The Checkpoint security tags enable the user to control external loss and can be used in an overall anti shoplifting solution.  Checkpoint security tags are the gold standard in retail theft prevention and create an environment that is conducive to customer service and business profitability.

While working for a large multi-national specialty retailer, I was able to see first hand the effectiveness of Checkpoint security tags.  The company decided to use Checkpoint Systems as their primary provider of Checkpoint security tags.  This was used in conjunction with an overall retail theft prevention program.   The use of these systems provided an environment the encouraged a policy of anti shoplifting and had a significant impact company-wide.  This reduction in shoplifting not only made the stores more profitable, but also increased the stores customer service ratings.  If your looking to increase your business profitability, develop anti shoplifting measures, and institute a retail theft prevention program, have a look at Checkpoint security tags.

Missing Liquor Bottles?

Are you worried about your high dollar liquor and wine sales not being accounted for?  Are you missing bottles of alcohol that can not be explained? Do you suspect that maybe one of your own employees is taking advantage of you? Whether you own a restaurant or a liquor store, these are all questions that are not only interrelated, but also have a very simple solution.

More than likely you have an employee that is taking advantage of the lack of bottle security in your place of business. Checkpoint offers a simple solution to wine and liquor bottle security. Their Alpha security line of bottle locks provide product denial to anyone who does not have a key or detacher.

The EASy bottle lock is a cap that fits over the top of your wine or liquor bottles without harming the caps or corks, preventing access to the contents inside. By limiting the keys or detachers, you provide enhanced liquor bottle security from not so honest employees.

Having a bottle lock on your merchandise will also protect your inventory from outside theft. Bottle security is easily maintained with the use of a bottle lock. Once the lock is placed, it is near impossible to remove without the proper equipment. The secret to your success will literally be in your hand with the S3 or EASy Bottle hand key detacher.

So what is the right type of clothing security to use?

There are many different types of clothing security options available on the market today.  One of the difficult issues is knowing which clothing security device is right for your business.  There are several options that I think are the best.

One clothing security option is Checkpoint tags.  Checkpoint tags are time tested and are one of the leading providers in the country.  Many major business chains use Checkpoint tags and the Checkpoint clothing alarm to protect their assets.  Many shoplifters know about these clothing security tags as well.  When shoplifters recognize that you have a quality retail theft solution they are more likely to leave your product alone and go try to steal somewhere else.  Shoplifters don’t like products that are hard to defeat so you will deter a lot of theft with Checkpoint tags.

Another solution is to use clothing security tags by Alpha Security.  Alpha is a newer product, but I have fallen in love with its products.  There are many options available to put security tags on clothes with Alpha.  They have standard hard tags and they also have tags with built in alarms.  These are the best.  If you also purchase the Nano Gate, which is Alpha’s clothing alarm, the pedestals will trigger the tag alarm when the product leaves the store.  It is easy for someone to say a regular EAS alarm is a false alarm, but it is really hard to explain away the alarm going off in their bag or from under their shirt.

Whichever solution you use, please know how important it is to put security tags on clothes.  Clothes are easy to steal and resell so they are a high target for Organized Retail Crime.  Checkpoint and Alpha solutions go a long way to keeping your profits safe.
