The lack of Checkpoint tags used on clothing accessories is alarming!!

I am often surprised when I am shopping and don’t see clothing security on clothing accessories.  I find that many retailers remember to put security tags on clothes that are standard, such as shirts, pants and jackets.  But those same stores will not have clothing security tags on accessories such as: ties, gloves, scarves, etc.

To me, these seem like the most logical items to add clothing security to since they are small and easy to steal.  They also, generally are expensive.  I don’t know how many readers have purchased a tie recently, but many are about as expensive as a shirt and they are much easier to steal.  As we are approaching the cold weather season stores will start carrying gloves and scarves.  These again can be quite expensive and are much easier to steal than a winter coat, yet they are often forgotten.

One important note is to use Checkpoint tags that are appropriate for the size of accessory you want to protect.  Checkpoint tags come in a variety of sizes and styles.  For ties, you will not want to use a hard tag and puncture the tie itself so you may use a soft tag hidden under the price label (or embedded in the price label).  Another alternative is to use a woven label.  This would be woven on the backside of the tie and is harder to remove.  The same thing goes for scarves and other small accessories.  Now when looking at tagging gloves you have several options.  If they have elastic cuffs then I would use hard tags.  Hard clothing security tags are always the hardest to remove and provide the best security.  When you are looking at tagging leather gloves; however, you can’t really use hard tags so the soft tags are a more likely solution.
