The Alpha 2 Alarm lanyard is a retail anti-theft device comprised of a small block (only a few inches long) that has a wire lanyard permanently attached at one end. I would like to feel that I am pretty savvy when it comes to technology. There isn’t much that I can’t do or figure out. I am baffled when it comes to what exactly are the Alpha Security Alpha 2 Alarm and Alpha 3 Alarm retail anti theft devices.

Spring is well under way and so are many home improvement projects for homeowners. The beginning of April through the Fourth of July weekend is the busiest time in the home improvement industry. Protection with retail anti theft devices

Sometimes it takes a few losses to realize how desirable a particular item has become to the shoplifter. We cannot predict which items will be the next hot theft item or which merchandise will need our focus to prevent shoplifting.

The best strategy is to protect our most expensive merchandise with Spider Wrap, Jewel Lok, Shark Tag, or one of the many other retail anti-theft devices that are available on the market before theft can becomes noticeable.

My typical strategy after assessing price points is to focus on things that are easy to steal and easy to sell when determining which items require spider wrap. Any high dollar item with packaging that has a handle accelerates straight to the top of the spider wrap list. Expensive, small, or easy-to-conceal items are typically first on a spider wrap roster as well. Browsing local resale shops or online resale websites also helps to identify which merchandise is being targeted.

When determining the list of merchandise to shark tag, I will typically tag merchandise seasonally. I also notice the return trends for used items on specific types of merchandise. School dance seasons such as prom or homecoming are the most common times that we utilize Jewel Lok and Shark Tag.

The Jewel Lok or Shark Tag affixed to all high dollar items deters customers from purchasing and wearing the item to their big event and then returning afterward. Leather coats also merit shark tag to prevent seasonal wearers from purchasing an expensive coat at the beginning of the season and returning it when the cold season has ended.

Nano Gate to the Rescue

Anyone who has spent time apprehending shoplifters has either made a bad stop or come really close. When I say “bad stop”, I’m referring to an apprehension where the suspect did not actually have the product on their person. The most common scenario is that the LP Agent saw the customer conceal the product, but somewhere along the way the suspect de-concealed the product and the LP Agent missed it. Some days are like that when you are trying to prevent shoplifting.

Potential lawsuits can be filed for false imprisonment, defamation of character, emotional distress, etc. in situations such as this and can become extremely costly to companies. Many retailers have stopped making apprehensions all together to avoid the risk of liability. A different solution is needed to protect your merchandise and increase profits by reducing losses.

Stores definitely need LP Agents making apprehensions. This is a strong visual deterrent which helps prevent shoplifting because it sends an unequivocal message that your store is not an easy target for shoplifters. I also suggest adding retail anti-theft devices to the mix to help your LP Agents make safe and responsible apprehensions. Retail anti-theft devices will by themselves help prevent shoplifting. Something For Everyone – Alpha 2 Alarm

When I think about EAS alarms I have images of hard plastic tags sticking off of clothing and accessories. These are the tags that set off the alarms at the doors at the big retail shops that need them to prevent shoplifting. What doesn’t come to mind is liquor stores having the same retail anti theft devices and security in their stores.

What a Mess – Alpha Jewel Lok to the Rescue

I went to the local big box last week to find a pair of earrings for a holiday party. Because I needed to match a specific outfit, I didn’t have a lot of wiggle room with what I could wear. As a Loss Prevention professional, I realized that the store didn’t appear to be deploying retail anti-theft devices.

It was so frustrating because this particular store had been completely ransacked in their fashion jewelry department. There were earrings missing, or lying on the ground in complete disarray. Just when I would spy a pair I really liked, there would be something wrong with them. With out a doubt, it would be the only pair like that on the rounder, too!

Eventually, I just ended up leaving without making a purchase. It was frustrating as a customer to have such rotten luck finding what I needed.
