Keeping Up With the Crowd – Alpha 3 Alarm

I should begin by saying that our primary goal is always to recover the stolen merchandise. Of course we would really rather prevent shoplifting before it ever happens, but that’s another story.

Given the choice between recovering our product and apprehending and arresting a shoplifter, we will always get our product back first. It is purely a financial decision – we want to recover our financial loss. It was worse before we started using Alpha Security for our retail anti-theft devices.

We started to use Alpha 3 Alarm for the simple reason that it is easier to track down our merchandise. When a shoplifter steals an item, we have to wait until he exits our store before we can apprehend. Unfortunately, we now have to contend with all of the mall shoppers. If the shoplifter starts to run, they can easily get lost in the crowd. Most retail anti-theft devices only set off the alarm at the door, but nothing further

Not anymore though. The Alpha 3 Alarm gives an audible signal that lets us follow the product, even if the shoplifter discards the merchandise along the way. In the Corral – Alpha Spider Wrap

We recently re-designed the tool area of our store. Because the new area is a closed off horseshoe shape, it was deemed a corral. The concept was to reduce our shrink in power tools. If the shoplifters only had one way in and one way out of the department, there would be a greater chance of them being detected. Unfortunately, this didn’t work as well as expected so we went to plan B – the Alpha Spider Wrap made by Alpha Security.

Our corral would probably have worked out well, if we had taken the time to staff it correctly. Since the right hand (who made payroll decisions) didn’t know what the left hand (our loss prevention team) was doing, it was unfortunately a doomed concept from the start.

With no one watching the area, it didn’t matter how many exits there were out of the department. What did work was the implementation of the Alpha Spider Wraps. These wraps were attached to the outside of the boxes of our high theft power tools. Now there was a means to permanently prevent shoplifting regardless of how many labor hours involved.

It’s a Special Occasion – Alpha Shark Tag

The Alpha Shark Tag differs from most retail anti theft devices that are designed strictly to prevent shoplifting.

This is a plastic tag that attaches to the garment. It is in an obvious place on the clothes that makes it unattractive to be worn, especially in a formal setting such as a dance. It is also in a place that would be hard to hide or cover up with a wrap or jacket.

I read an article in a loss prevention trade magazine that covered a story about one of the head honchos retiring from Alpha Security. He was responsible for many of the new products that Alpha Security is currently using with enormous amounts of success in retail anti-theft devices.

His peers all seemed to think he was a great guy, quiet and unassuming always looking for the next great innovation. He wanted to be able to provide a valuable service to the industry.

When so many companies are dead set on profits above all, it was heartwarming to see a story about more than just record setting profits. To see someone with such accolades being remembered for his personality and commitment to prevent shoplifting issues speaks volumes.

It says that Alpha Security values people and ideas, not just profits. It shows in their products. They are not designed to break the banks of small business owners. The Ups and Downs – Alpha Nano Gate

Once upon a time I used only retail anti-theft devices like hard and soft tags in conjunction with my exit door towers to prevent shoplifting. For the most part, we saw very few attempts at theft because we were diligent in our tagging efforts. Things looked good for our store and our shrink results reinforced our dedication to retail anti-theft devices.

This was at a high-end retailer that I used to work for. The store had two levels with escalators going up and down in the center atrium. If anyone went up or down, we knew about it. There was no need to have anything like the Alpha Security Nano Gate at the escalators because of our great visibility.

What we could have used the Alpha Nano Gate for (if it had existed back then) was the elevator. The elevator was tucked away in a far corner right next to an exterior door. To this day, I don’t know how much merchandise we lost out that door because someone picked up something on the second floor, went down the elevator and then scooted right out the door. It was because we had no way of monitoring the elevator or that exit door.

High Performance Vehicle – Prevent Shoplifting

What do cars and clothes have in common? Both have alarms on them that people have stopped paying attention to. Retail theft prevention needs to find a way to get past the false alarm and really start to prevent shoplifting.

A Little Something For You – Alpha 2 Alarm

When I picture EAS alarms, I have images of hard plastic tags with pins designed for clothing stores or stuck inside of DVDs. These tags set off the alarms at the doors at the big retail shops that need them to prevent shoplifting. What doesn’t come to mind is liquor stores using retail anti theft devices for security in their stores.

Obviously, the little plastic tags and pins are completely ineffective on a glass liquor or wine bottle. The Strength of The Cable – Alpha 2 Alarm

One of the most impressive parts of the Alpha Security Alpha 2 Alarm retail anti- theft device is not the actual alarm or the technology that is carried inside of these little devices. What is really impressive is the security cable that wraps around the merchandise and connects the tag.

Foil Their Plans – Alpha 3 Alarm

If you look at modern day methods of shoplifting, you will find one in particular has been a little difficult to combat – foil lined bags or jackets. When retail anti-theft devices are concealed in the foil lining of those bags or jackets, it potentially will not register an alarm like it is supposed to. The thief can remove the tag at their leisure in their own private surroundings, once they have safely exited the store without detection.

Alpha Security, knowing that this has been an ongoing problem, has made a new line of retail anti-theft devices known as Alpha 3 Alarm.

They have preformed a series of tests where they envelope Alpha 3 Alarm products in a layer of foil. They measure the results and work up to four layers of foil.

What they found was the second layer that was added creates a small bubble that the Alpha 3 Alarm tag doesn’t register in. However, increasing the number of layers of foil does not increase that bubble.

Alpha 3 Alarm products secure the merchandise better to prevent shoplifting of those items, compared to other manufacturers retail anti-theft devices.
