I never worried about trying to prevent shoplifting out of the back office areas in my stores. So it never crossed my mind to install and Alpha Security Alpha Nano Gate outside the office.

With all of the exciting advancements in retail anti theft devices, it is easy to overlook the effectiveness and usefulness of an old stand by- the Alpha Security Ink Tag.

The ink tag is a combination of typical retail anti theft devices (EAS tags) and vials of dye. Generally there is a glow in the dark ink and a dark blue or red dye in each tag. The point being, even if a shoplifter runs out of the store with merchandise that still bears an EAS tag, they will effectively destroy the merchandise when they tamper with the EAS tag to remove them.

These tags prevent shoplifting by providing the risk of getting caught by an alarm, in addition to ruining whatever they are trying to steal. If the merchandise is worthless, there is no point in stealing it. Clothing cannot be resold or worn easily when the ink stains the fabric beyond repair.

Alpha Security has just released their latest in retail anti theft devices. It is called the Banded Hard Tag. The tag’s functionality provides for the same features to prevent shoplifting that their other retail anti theft devices do. The difference is in the physical design of the Banded Hard Tag.

Instead of the conventional two part hard tag that consists of a pin and a “button”, the Alpha Security Banded Hard Tag is designed out of just one piece of molded plastic. By only having one piece to control instead of two, retailers will find a variety of benefits from using this new design.

The tags are small, measuring a mere 1.78”L x 0.637”W x 0.844”D. They prevent shoplifting of standard clothing items. Additionally, they provide protection for other merchandise that has historically been difficult to attach EAS hard tags to. Shoes, zippered bags (like comforters and sheet sets), and intimates can now benefit from shoplifting protection.

A common retail practice when selling just about anything is to mark down merchandise for a quicker sale. By marking down merchandise, it helps the retailer recoup at least minimal margin dollars on these items while clearing inventory for new products. The exception is for miss- mates caused by a lack of retail anti theft devices.

Alpha Security has a new addition to their Alpha Jewel Lok line of retail anti theft devices. This new lock is designed specifically for collectable or high priced pins.

Just as with other kinds of jewelry, collectable pins are not immune to theft. Up until Alpha Security developed and released the Alpha Jewel Lok to prevent shoplifting, there were very minimal security solutions. Most of them involved an EAS label affixed to the jewelry card that was relatively easy to peel off and defeat.

The Alpha Jewel Lok is a successful solution, not just because the locks give maximum product and benefit denial, but because they are a great merchandising solution.  The low profile of the lock has a minimal impact on merchandising space. The cards will still fit on the existing spinner racks or peg hooks without reducing the inventory count within the space.
