Wardrobing is a strong focus throughout the November/ December holiday season. Because of the strong presence of holiday parties, events and gatherings, an unfortunate number of consumers will attempt wardrobing their purchases. One of the best ways to implement a change of policy is to make sure your intentions are clear- make them black and white. When you start to use Alpha Shark Tags, you want to make sure your employees and your customers are clear from the start as to what they are and what they are used for.

Alpha Shark Tags are plastic clamps that affix to the front of a garment. There is usually a pin that clamps the two sides together securely. Because this is not an anti shoplifting device, the consumer can easily remove the tag with a pair of household scissors.

It is important that the consumer knows these tags are there for one reason only: to stop wardrobing retail. The consumer also needs to know that if the tag is removed, it will be unable to be reattached.

After a friend’s recent college graduation ceremony, one of the grads started talking about how she is always prepared for job interviews because she buys a new outfit for each interview and then returns it. Basically she was admitting to wardrobing retail to make herself look better (and more qualified) for a job interview.

She talked about how the hardest item to return was shoes. When you wear them outside, they immediately begin to show wear on the soles- retailers look for that at the returns desk. This is one of the biggest reasons why retailers don’t use Alpha Shark Tags on shoes to prevent wardrobing.

Even though it is rare to catch a customer actually wearing the clothes they are attempting to return, tampered Wardrobing Tags are the next best thing to catching them in the act.
