Take the Target Off Your Back

Have you thought about using an EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) system in your store? There are many forms of RF security systems out there; the best ones, however, use paper-thin RF security labels and the industry standard in the RF label world is Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags. RF security tags are small hard plastic clothing tags that are nearly impossible to remove without a special key kept next to your registers.

You have probably noticed clothing tags on your floor or shoved into shelves and empty hangers. Unfortunately, shoplifters have realized that you aren’t using RF security tags or RF labels and you are an easy target. They run no risk of being seen attempting to remove an RF label and you aren’t using an EAS system to sound off when they take your merchandise. The only way to stop shoplifting now is to start taking it seriously.

You need to invest in RF labels and RF security tags. Shoplifters rely on anonymity to steal things. They don’t want to be noticed doing their evil deeds. When a criminal sees RF tags on clothing they are an automatic visual deterrent. No shoplifter wants to risk an RF security system going off and alerting everyone in the store that they’re trying to walk out with active RF security labels. It’s a small investment to protect your inventory and let shoplifters know you are no longer the easy target they’re after!

RF Label: Working Hard For You

If you pay an employee you expect him/her to work, right?  Well the same should go for the anti-theft devices you buy.  With the economy the way it is, we are all concerned with expenses.  That said, you have to have employees in order to make sales and in the same regards you have to utilize stop shoplifting tools in order to protect the profit from those sales.

So how can you make anti-theft products “work”?  There are several ways.  First, you have to have the proper employees.  Checkpoint Systems is a leader in innovative stop shoplifting tools, such as RF security tags, RF labels, cameras, clothing alarms, etc.  So now that we have hired the right “employee” in Checkpoint Security Systems, we need to do the training.

Systems are only as good as the people who work them.  Managers need to be properly trained on how to use the Checkpoint System cameras if they are going to track known shoplifters and avoid getting repeatedly hit by the same thieves.  Cashiers and other associates need to be trained on the EAS system so they know how to apply Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags in the correct locations and respond to the alarms properly.  (A few tips on the RF security tags and RF security labels placement.  Put hard tags in seams of product to avoid damaging the merchandise.  Put an RF label near the barcodes (preferably on the inside of the package if possible) to help ensure deactivation at the register.)

Finally, you have to manage the program.  Shoplifting prevention is not a hand off process.  It requires monitoring, regular follow up to ensure proper functionality and fine-tuning; just like the rest of your employees. Make sure that your employees are placing the RF labels in the proper locations. You will also want to make sure that they are not placing the RF security labels directly on metal surfaces.  The good thing is Checkpoint systems offers great service to assist you in this process.

Reasons To Be Alarmed

Anti-theft RF security tags used as part of a stop shoplifting plan along with RF security system EAS protection of vulnerable high theft merchandise is alarming!

The shoplifters think it’s alarming because once the RF security system is installed in the store; they will have to decide on another retailer to visit in order to continue to commit their crime undetected.  The customer can’t remove the Checkpoint security tags once they’re attached.

RF labels are also alarming when it passes through the detection field of the Checkpoint security system’s antennas located at the store’s entrance.  The audible alarm and flashing light (on most models) alert store staff to the fact that an RF label is still attached to articles that are leaving the store and require attention.  An employee using a special detacher specifically designed by Checkpoint security systems removes the RF security tags or deactivates the RF security labels at the point of sale.

Anti-theft applications for the RF security tags are designed for almost any type of merchandise, including specialty items.  The RF (Radio Frequency) technology used in Checkpoint systems is the very latest and most advanced in the industry for retailers.  Also alarming for shoplifters is that the retailer can pick and choose which merchandise to protect.  Shoplifters will definitely avoid stores that utilize a Checkpoint system as part of its stop shoplifting strategy.  Apparel, sports gear, hardware, electronics, and almost any other type of merchandise you can imagine can be protected by one of Checkpoint security systems’ selection of hard tags or Checkpoint Labels.

An RF labels is best suited for items that a tag won’t work well on because of size or material, such as boxed or packaged items.

One thing a retailer won’t be alarmed about is the improvement in inventory shortage figures once an anti-theft program including a Checkpoint system, RF Labels or RF security labels are used in their store.

RF Done Right

A few days ago I received a service call from a new client who needed service on an existing Checkpoint system that he had purchased to stop shoplifting at his retail store. The problem he was having is that two days after the system was installed it started to false alarm. After talking with the gentleman I found out that he had purchased the system from an uncertified company that was selling “refurbished” Checkpoint security systems

He had attempted to contact the company he had purchased the Checkpoint system from but they were giving him the runaround and were not making any efforts to resolve his problem. After being unsuccessful with the “reseller of his refurbished system” he contacted Loss Prevention Systems, Inc. We promptly setup a service call scheduled for the following day. Upon arriving onsite the technician discovered what the problem was… everything.

The problem with an uncertified “reseller” is that they have not been adequately trained nor do they have the correct equipment to install a Checkpoint system properly. If you have someone who does not know what they are doing, you risk a similar situation. From the unique type of wire that is used to the software that programs an antenna, only someone factory certified on Checkpoint security systems will be able to ensure that your system will operate at its highest efficiency.

The “reseller” also sold this gentleman what he thought were Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels. The problem was that the RF labels he bought were actually an aftermarket knockoff RF label. These knockoff RF labels are very unreliable. Genuine Checkpoint RF security labels and RF security tags are very hard to copy, these company’s that try to duplicate an RF label usually have at least one of two problems. Either a large number of RF security labels will not alarm the system or it’s what is referred to as a “stubborn” label, which means that the label will not deactivate at the time of purchase and causes a properly purchased item to alarm a Checkpoint system when your client leaves the store.

If you are considering purchasing a Checkpoint security system and RF security tags, don’t make the mistake of using an uncertified reseller. Let us help you get the right parts at the right price the first time.

RF: Saving Your Bottom Line

There is no common conclusion among retailers on what constitutes the best anti-theft device.  There are all kinds of tools that the retailer can use to keep shoplifting under control depending on the severity and frequency of theft, the category and price point of merchandise displayed and the actual location of the store itself.  The common denominator seems to be that no matter what stop shoplifting measures the retailer takes; the shoplifter will always try to find a way to defeat it.

Convex mirrors, visible cameras, and two way mirrors are easily seen and avoided by shoplifters, as are sales people and other employees.  All a shoplifter needs is a second of privacy hidden from view to conceal merchandise and be out of the store with it.

Checkpoint Systems has a theft prevention plan designed to stop shoplifting by all but the most determined shoplifters.

The retailer makes the decision as to the criteria of the merchandise to be protected.  RF labels or RF security tags are attached to that merchandise and effectively ensures that a shoplifter will not steal it.

RF security labels are placed on the packaging of merchandise considered high theft.  There are large selections of RF labels available from Checkpoint Security Systems that attach to the packages with adhesive or are hidden inside the merchandise so that it is not visible to the customer.  If an RF label has not been deactivated by an employee and is carried out the door, an alarm will sound, alerting the staff to take action.

The Checkpoint security tags attach to apparel and ready to wear by a pin that goes through the garment in an inconspicuous place and secures the tag to the garment.  The RF security tags can be removed only with a special detacher.  As with the label, failure to remove the tag will result in an audible alarm at the exit.

Checkpoint systems, when combined with any RF label, can help any retailer who wants to cut his losses due to shoplifting.  The presence of the Checkpoint system alone deters most shoplifters since it is visible but not intimidating at the customer entrance and the Checkpoint labels and RF security labels are extremely difficult to remove or defeat.

Used by themselves or with other retail theft prevention tools, Checkpoint systems and RF security labels will significantly decrease a retailer’s loss to customer theft.

RF: Low Risk, Lower Losses

Any retailer who has a high shrink figure knows it’s time to increase the loss prevention effort at his business.  Most estimates attribute 33 to 50% of all shrink to shoplifters.

There are plenty of anti-theft devices on the market that promise to stop shoplifting altogether or at least greatly reduce it.  Some do and some don’t, some are enormously expensive and some are reasonable.

Retailers have shown measurable results when using anti-theft devices made by Checkpoint Security Systems, including pedestals, Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags help to reduce shoplifting losses in their businesses.  Using Checkpoint Systems anti-theft devices properly as part of a stop shoplifting strategy, with the application of RF labels and RF security tags to high risk merchandise shows shoplifters that the retailer is serious about their means to stop shoplifting from occurring and has committed to not being a victim of thieves.

First of all the pedestal (the detection part) of the Checkpoint Systems equipment is visible to customers who enter the store, but it is not at all intimidating.  In fact, there are models that accept advertising panels in them to bring attention to sales or other information.  Checkpoint Systems has designed RF security tags and RF labels to protect almost any type and style of merchandise, from ready to wear to hardware, depending on the needs of the retailer.

Next an RF label or RF security labels can only be removed or deactivated at the point of sale by the cashier who has access to special equipment designed for this purpose.  When an active tag or RF label passes through the pedestal’s field, an alarm sounds and a light flashes, alerting the staff as well as the customer that there is merchandise that needs attention.  Staff receives special training available from Checkpoint Security Systems that instructs them how to handle an alarm condition with the customer and the equipment.

The Checkpoint System, with the help of RF security labels, provides both deterrence and detection at a very affordable and economical price.

Generation Thief

Unsupervised juvenile shoppers sometimes require their own stop shoplifting attention. Unfortunately teenagers are still developing their sense of right and wrong as well as trying to rebel against authority. So just what is best way to handle suspicious teenagers without chewing them up and spitting them out?

Although youthful shoplifters may appear bold at times, that is usually just to impress their peers.  They of course prefer to avoid detection, or in some cases find a reason not to shoplift.  In ten years of working with a local county juvenile probation department in their anti shoplifting campaign, I came across very few juvenile offenders who were alone when the committed the act of shoplifting.

Given that all shoplifters, particularly young and relatively inexperienced ones, want to choose the easiest target possible as a victim, retailers who have installed RF security devices like those manufactured by Checkpoint Security Systems have the best chance of deterring potential juvenile shoplifters from committing their crimes.  Clothing is a prime target of teenagers, particularly females.  Clothing is one of the easiest items of merchandise to protect using RF labels and RF security tags.  Simply place Checkpoint security tags or Checkpoint labels on the merchandise you are having theft problems with and they will stop shoplifting almost 100% of the time. RF security tags and any RF label are virtually impossible to remove (use RF security labels with genuine Checkpoint equipment, not a cheap knockoff that can be easily defeated) by a potential shoplifter.  RF security tags and RF labels are a visual deterrent to most would be shoplifters and will effectively stop shoplifting from most teens, especially the ones looking for a reason not to shoplift in the first place.

So the good news is that while youthful shoplifters seem to be everywhere, they are relatively easy to prevent.  With a few simple anti shoplifting tools, such as RF security labels, a retailer can protect their assets from teens. If a retailer depends on Checkpoint Security Systems to protect his merchandise he will have far fewer problems than one who doesn’t.

Weave Got You Covered

For those of you that don’t know, hair extensions are all the rage today in the fashion industry. They are quick and easy means for women to change the style of their hair instantly. Hair extensions range in price from a few dollars a pack to several hundred. Of course their popularity and prices make them a prime target for theft. These items are clearly candidates for retail theft prevention and you need a way to help stop shoplifting.

Hair Extensions have not been exempt from the smash and grab issues occurring in the US today where thieves literally smash into a retail store with a vehicle scoop up as much higher end product as possible and leave. But these items have also come on to the radar to the normal everyday shoplifter.

This goes to the age old problem, how does a retailer display their goods for sale allowing the good customers touch and evaluate their options while keeping the shoplifters away? We have a number of clients that have been dealing with this for some time with great success. The solution to stop shoplifting is simple. Use Checkpoint security tags and RF security tags to shut the shoplifters down. RF security tags and RF security labels attach directly to the wafted part of the hair extension. If the shoplifter attempts to steal it then the RF system at the exit doors let staff know.

There is also another product line that complements Checkpoint Systems. Alpha High Theft Solutions produces several devices that will work on hair extensions. These include ink tags and peg-hook tags. Any of these allow a retailer to keep the hair extensions and other merchandise on the floor and available to the customer.

We can also use an RF label to prevent retail theft. A paper-thin RF label has an adhesive back and can be placed directly on the packaging either on the inside or outside. Checkpoint labels also have the advantage of being able to be used on almost all the other products in a Beauty Supply Store. RF security labels come in various sizes from postage stamp size on up.

This creates a loss prevention program that works 24/7. It never takes a day off or calls in sick. It is always working even if you are busy or distracted.

If you want to stop shoplifting now you need to get a retail theft prevention program. Shoplifting will not go away by itself. Wishing so will not make it happen. The use of retail loss prevention devices is the key.

RF Labels That Work For You

Figuring out how to stop shoplifting from occurring, can be a tough nut to crack with some items. Clothing items take RF security tags well. You usually locate the Checkpoint security tags on a seam or similar location. But what are tricky in RF systems are items like leather, purses, belts, bags and hats. An RF system relies on the use of RF security labels but what do you do when the RF label is either too large or the use of a pin is not practical or it will damage the product?

In the RF security world there is a low cost but high-end solution. It is the Alpha Fashion2 Tags. The Fashion2 RF security tags are less than 2 inches long and very thin. This tag requires the use of a pin. However, because of it’s small size it will fit on very small items such as those thong type swimsuit bottoms that do not have a whole lot of material to begin with!

The Fashion2 Accessory Tag takes RF security in a whole different direction. This tag looks the same as the Fashion2 Hard Tag but it has one major difference. The accessory tag has a built in 3 inch coated aircraft cable with a built in pin. The cable loops around the item and then locks into place. In the past you would have to use traditional RF security labels and flex string. Because the cable is only 3 inches the Fashion2 rides close to your merchandise item and has a pleasant appearance. The cool thing about this tag is that when you remove it the cable stays attached to the hard tag. No more fishing around for a flex string.

Another strong RF security point is that the aircraft cable is a thicker more robust cable. It would take quite a bit of time to cut through this baby. The clear plastic coating protects the finish of your merchandise. Loop these RF security tags through belt buckles, shoes, purse handles, leather item buttonholes, openings in hats or bag handles. Basically if you can loop the cable through the merchandise item you have attached your RF Security labels.

Both the Fashion2 and the Fashion2 Accessory Checkpoint labels come in RF and AM formats and are available in beige, gray and black colors. Standard or super detacher models available.

How RF Labels Can Save Your Assets

Trying to stop shoplifting has always been reason for alarm to an apparel retailer.  People steal clothes, but people steal fewer clothes if there is an RF label attached.  They steal them because they want to have the latest fashion and either can’t afford it or don’t want to pay the price for it.  It’s usually the most popular items that are vulnerable to both the casual shoplifter and the professional shoplifter.  Professional shoplifter is defined here as one who resells the merchandise that he steals for profit.

There are so many ways to steal clothing.  Drop in your shopping bag, conceal it in your own clothes, wear it out, or steal it in the fitting room or the restroom where there is plenty of privacy.  Then there are others who simply pick up the merchandise and walk out with it or snatch the clothing from a cube or round rack and run out the door.

RF labels are the one item that apparel shoplifters don’t want to see on their intended targets.  The RF security tags mean that if the shoplifter wants to avoid detection of his activity, he is going to have to remove or disable the RF security labels that are on the clothes, an almost impossible task.  The Checkpoint security tags are designed so that they are held fast by a metal pin that is pushed through the fabric so that it does no damage.  The tag can’t be removed without damaging the item that it protects.  The RF label can only be removed by a specially manufactured detacher, which separates the pins from the reusable RF security tags.

Checkpoint labels can enhance any retailer’s loss prevention program by protecting one of his most valuable lines of merchandise. RF security labels, when used properly, can be a great asset for any retail store.
