The Smallest RF Label

When I say small, I mean small. This particular RF label is only the size of your standard postage stamp. There are a plethora of different Checkpoint labels available to fit your needs and this one is designed for smaller items that do not need big, bulky RF labels taking up an entire side.

While the postage stamp RF security labels are small and aesthetically pleasing, you do need to keep in mind that their detection is not going to be as good as some of the larger Checkpoint security tags. As I have stated in some of my previous articles, when it comes to RF security tags, size matters. This is why it is very important to know what RF security labels to use in what situations.

There is always going to be decisions to be made about which RF security tags to use on what products. Do you sacrifice aesthetics for better detection or sacrifice some detection for aesthetics? If the latter is your choice, then the postage stamp label is right for you.

The Checkpoint postage stamp label is available in three main styles. The first style is a simple plain white label that is very popular for obvious reasons. The second style is a faux barcode. This feature helps to disguise that it is a security tag even further than it’s already small size. In the third style the label is black. This helps the label blend into darker colored merchandise to help keep it from standing out.

With all of this in mind, I hope I have helped you decide what security label will best help you stop shoplifting from occurring in your store.

RF security labels sewn in the clothes at manufacturing!? For real???

Yes.  You can now get your RF security labels and RF security tags applied during manufacturing so you don’t have to do it.  How amazing is that?  No more associate hours spent putting on EAS tags, but rather spent helping customers.  Isn’t that an innovative concept?

Checkpoint security is a leading maker of RF security tags and RF security labels.  Their Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags can now be applied directly during the manufacturing process.  If you sell clothes you can have Checkpoint labels woven inside the clothes (much like the wash instructions).  The EAS deactivator at checkout will deactivate the tag and the customer can leave it alone or remove easily with a pair of scissors at home.  Besides helping to deter theft this can also help defend against wear and return customers.  If they cut the tags out you know they’ve worn and altered the product and can easily refuse the refund.

For many other items you can have the Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags built in.  For boxed products they can apply the RF security tags either on the inside or the outside of the boxes.  If done outside it is more visible to shoplifters to let them know this item is protected.  If you are having a problem with ORC groups removing labels before stealing the product you can make it harder by having them put inside the boxes. It is hard to stop shoplifting, but using RF labels and tags will go a long way to helping in this fight.

Stop shoplifting or it may be YOUR goose being cooked!!

As a District LP Manger of a supermarket chain I am often struck by what people will actually try to steal.  It can be funny, but also unnerving, to see someone actually try to stick a turkey, ham or other large item under a dress and try to walk out.  Besides the sanitation issues that I don’t even want to ponder, I am very concerned by the brazen approach to supermarket theft.  I see more push outs and other obvious thefts here than any other hard or soft line retailer that I have ever worked before.  In order to stop shoplifting I rely heavily on RF security tags and RF security labels.

One leading producer of RF security tags and RF security labels is Checkpoint.  Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels are some of the best in the business.  There are a variety of sizes and shapes that the Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels can be purchased.  This helps me to protect a wide variety of products.  I can use the hard Checkpoint security tags and lanyards to protect some of the general merchandise and promo items that we sell.  I use RF labels on a large variety of OTC, HBC and Meat products.  There are several options for each category that I find work well for my business.  From RF label soaker pads to source tagging options, Checkpoint helps me stop shoplifting and increase customer satisfaction.

You don’t need a GPS to find directions to stop shoplifting.

There are a variety of ways to stop shoplifting in retail stores.  One way is by making apprehensions, but there is a lot of liability in this and it takes trained professionals to do the job correctly.  One safe and affordable option is to utilize RF security labels and RF security tags.  RF labels are sensor tags that have a radio frequency microchip that sends a signal to the pedestals at the doors when a “live” tag is passed through them.  In shorter terms, when you have a tag that has not been deactivated at the registers it will set of the door alarms when someone tries to walk out without paying.

One popular maker of RF security tags and RF security labels is Checkpoint.  Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels are widely known in most shoplifting circles.  Thieves are much more likely to leave your product alone when it is protected by RF labels and tags then they are to steal it.  This is really what you want.  Deterrence.

Now don’t get me wrong.  You will still have individuals who attempt to steal product even with Checkpoint security tags attached.  Some amateurs who don’t know what they are doing will still try to steal.  Others think they are brave and will attempt to steal as well.  When this happens you can still respond.  Most states use a “Shopkeepers Act” which allows the store to stop customers when the EAS system is alarmed.  You can then check the bags, receipts, etc. to determine if you have a loss or not.  This has much less liability than simply making an accusation of theft against a random customer.

Stop shoplifting this holiday season.

You can stop shoplifting this holiday season with the help of Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels.  Checkpoint is a leading manufacturer of RF security labels and RF security tags.  With all of the added shopper and shoplifters in your stores this holiday season the use of Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels can keep track of your products while your employees focus on your customers.

It is hard to give attention to both customers and products.  RF security tags and RF labels are considered inventory control systems.  They handle keeping tabs on your product so you don’t have to.  If you apply RF tags and RF security labels to your high dollar and high theft goods then you will be alerted if someone tries to leave the store without paying.  If the sounders at the door are not going off then you can rest at ease that shoplifting is not taking place and all your focus can go to the customer; which is exactly where we want it to go.

The use of an RF label or tag will go a long way to stop shoplifting.  Shoplifters rely on anonymity to carry out their misdeeds.  This is why the holidays are the perfect time to steal.  They can avoid associates much easier when the store is crowded and then steal without anyone even knowing they were there.  When a would-be shoplifter sees the use of Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags then they know they will receive unwanted attention if they attempt to steal the tagged product.  This in many cases will cause them to leave your product and try to steal elsewhere.

Holidays….less time, more people, more theft!

The holidays are most retailers busiest time of the year where financial goals tend to be made or lost based on a narrow scope of time. This obviously causes a huge amount of stress for both the sales operations department and the Loss Prevention department.

I worked for a small box retailer who made 60 percent of their business in a two month holiday period. This retailer bought and implemented the Checkpoint security tag system as a means to attempt to stop shoplifting. This system was very helpful since the store personnel were overwhelmed with sales and customer service issues at this time of year.

The store locations that utilized the checkpoint system the best devised a daily system to ensure all floor product was tagged with rf security labels both in the morning and at night. By no means will any physical security system stop shoplifting 100% but a properly implemented EAS system using checkpoint security tags as well as rf labels will take a huge bite out of shrink.

I remember how store locations from the same company could differ greatly in every aspect of the business thus requiring district and regional level store visits to ensure overall compliance to company policies. The same differences could be found in store locations both using the rf label system.

Part of my store visits were to first watch the location for a while to get a feel for the store’s overall compliance to sales and loss prevention protocol. It became plainly obvious that for the Checkpoint security label system to work in a store the system had to be supported by both the District Manager and the Store Manager. Failure to support the system from top management was easily pinpointed when auditing the checkpoint security tag compliance in high shrink categories as well as how the store staffs reacted to the EAS alarm system when product with rf labels were removed from the store.

If a customer walked out of the store with merchandise that had a rf label or rf security tag on it that either had not been properly deactivated or removed and the staff merely let the customer leave without batting an eye then it was usually a telltale sign that the checkpoint system was not being supported. The indifference to the system was something that had to be rectified immediately from the top down since ignoring the checkpoint label system cost the company money in both merchandise loss as well as the cost of the rf labels and rf security tags. It was imperative to have a meeting with the District Manager first and then the store manager. I would bring a breakdown of the store’s highest shrink categories and a detailed comparison to similar stores who were supporting the checkpoint system.

I would ensure the stores were evenly matched for sales volume, demographic and payroll allotment so that the comparison was fair. At this point District Managers usually understood the value of the rf security label system as well as the necessity to fully support and utilize the program. This is when as loss prevention profession I would step in to train the store manager and the staff as to proper tagging of merchandise using the rf security labels and rf security tags. I also had to train the staffs as to the importance of auditing the tagged product for consistency and compliance. Another piece to the training is to ensure every team member knows how to deactivate and remove checkpoint security tags and checkpoint security labels. The final step in training was to instruct all staff members the correct way to approach a customer when the EAS pedestal alarms sound when someone is removing product either knowingly or unknowingly still tagged with RF security labels or rf security tags.

Though the Checkpoint system can not promise to altogether stop shoplifting it was plainly evident when inventory results were reviewed that locations which embraced the checkpoint product wholly had much better overall shrink.

Stop Shoplifters in Their Tracks

Utilizing Checkpoint labels will increase your ability to stop shoplifting at your retail location.  Checkpoint labels when placed on products offer an added layer of merchandise security.  Checkpoint labels have been used across the retail industry to help stop shoplifting.  Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags are two of high tech products in the loss prevention industry aimed at preventing shoplifting.

Checkpoint security tags use RF technology in an effort to stop shoplifting.  Checkpoint security tags, unlike an RF label, are usually attached to merchandise.  A RF label may be affixed to merchandise packaging or integrated into the packaging.  A RF label operates in a similar manner as RF security tags they emit a radio frequency that is designed to alarm if it breaks the field of a security pedestal, which reacts when RF labels enters into the radio frequency field.

RF labels and RF security tags have become more and more popular in the retail industry.  Many stores have installed the RF frequency pedestal detectors at the entrances to their stores and they utilize both the RF security labels and RF security tags on their merchandise.  I have worked in stores that have utilized either the RF security labels or the RF security tags.  In some stores I have seen both the RF security labels and the RF security tags being used in shoplifter prevention.

It is important that stores are consistent in their use of RF labels.  This consistency occurs when the store commits to ensuring every product in the store has an RF device either attached to it or integrated into the product or product packaging.  Shoplifters will be persistent and look for merchandise that is less protected and if they find merchandise that is not protected, they will target that merchandise.  I have seen shoplifters steal merchandise simply because it did not have a security tag.

Soak Up Your Shrink with RF Security Labels

If you own a grocery store, you are probably all too familiar with shoplifters stealing steaks. The theft of meat is one of the leading causes of loss in the Grocery industry. Whether it is a porterhouse or just your standard round roast, thieves target these items for either resale on the black market or just for their weekend bar-b-que.

Well, if this is a problem you are having, we have a solution for you. At Loss Prevention Systems, in our Checkpoint labels division, we offer an RF label that is embedded in a soaker pad. It is an all-in-one solution to your problem. Inside a standard soaker pad, a specially designed RF label is sewn into the fabric of the pad.

With this added level of convenience, you no longer have to add that extra step to the butcher’s duties. Usually when the meat is being packaged and priced, the individuals will then attach RF labels somewhere on the package. Although this doesn’t add much time to the process, there are several things that can go wrong during this step. You always run the risk of the employee forgetting to put the RF security tags on the products or they place the Checkpoint security tags in the wrong place. When I say wrong place, this does not mean that depending on where the RF label is placed, that it won’t alarm when it goes out the door. What I am meaning is that if the RF security labels are sporadically placed throughout the packaging, the cashiers will not know what part of the package needs to cross over the scanner to ensure deactivation of a purchased item. This can cause issues with customers who have purchased items properly having to be inconvenienced when leaving your establishment.

With the soaker pad RF security tags, anyone who can place a soaker pad under a piece of meat has the skill set to help stop shoplifting from occurring in your meat department.

New RF Security Labels…”Clearly” a cut above in RF labels

If you have not looked into the new clear RF labels you are missing out. Clear labels provide a whole new dimension to the RF label world. Checkpoint labels are of the highest quality made to begin with. Cheap knock offs are well…let’s just say this, you get what you pay for. The new clear labels are in an Enhanced Performance (EP) format. This means that they are hotter than any other RF label on the market. Their detection performance is considerably better.

On top of that the clear labels tend to disappear on product packaging. This means that the shoplifter is not as likely to see the label and try to defeat it as they could with any RF security labels. The EP 3210 Clear RF label can be applied directly over the products bar code. The barcode can still be scanned and the label tends to disappear.

The EP 2933 is available as either white or clear. This round RF label in the clear format can blend into the bottom of any small bottle. It is 33mm (1.25”) across.

Checkpoint labels including all clear RF labels have a very aggressive adhesive. They will not dry up and fall off like the knock offs.

All RF security labels are designed to stop shoplifting. But if the label is a poor design it means that you will not stop shoplifting in your store. The RF labels are the ammunition in your war against shoplifters. Make sure your anti-shoplifting weapons are the strongest out there!

Be Proactive: Protect your concealable items with RF security labels

One of the highest theft items at the stores I cover as a loss prevention agent is accessories. These items cover anything from men’s and women’s fragrances to jewelry and makeup. The reason these items are so appealing to shoplifters is the fact that they are so easily concealable. All a shoplifter needs to do is walk by a case of lip balms, for example, and casually pick one up and put it in their pocket/purse/shopping bag. In order to stop shoplifting of accessories one of the greatest resources we use are RF labels.

The “RF” in RF labels stands for Radio Frequency. They work similarly to other Checkpoint security tags by setting off an alarm when a shoplifter attempts to take an item with a RF label outside of the store. The remarkable aspect about Checkpoint labels, however, is the fact that they can be placed on almost any item large or small in your store in order to stop shoplifting.

RF security labels are small and discreet. They can be placed on the bottom of your product in order to not cause any interference to customer interactions. RF security tags are strong, too. The glue is secure and cannot be taken off easily and believe me I’ve seen plenty of people try!

If your store sells smaller items, such as makeup or fragrance, RF security labels are a must. In order to effectively stop shoplifting, you must be proactive in guarding the highest theft items.
