Are your cold weather items protected by Checkpoint tags?

Aaahhh.  Just had the first little taste of cool weather this past weekend and it already has me looking forward to the fall and winter months.  Of course, if you sell clothes then you have already been clearancing the summer merchandise and putting out your new fall line.  I just hope you remembered to use clothing security to protect you new merchandise.

We all know that cold weather merchandise is generally more expensive than warm weather since it takes more materials to produce.  Shoplifting also picks up around this time of year for several reasons.  One, it is easier to steal.  Shoplifters take full advantage of the ability to use bulky coats and clothes to conceal product.  Not something you can easily do in a tank top and shorts.  Additionally, we have the holidays fast approaching.  No one wants to be the shcmuck who shows up at the Christmas tree or party without any presents.  When times are tight that only leaves stealing as a solution.

With that said it is important to put security tags on clothes in order to protect you products.  Personally, I like the Checkpoint tags to deter theft.  Checkpoint tags are well known by shoplifters and they are reliable.  By putting security tags on clothes you force shoplifters to go elsewhere to steal.  Additionally, the Checkpoint clothing alarm is a quality product.  I have worked with clothing alarm systems in the past that would be triggered by cell phones and other electronic devices.  This does not happen with the Checkpoint systems.  They are tuned to a set frequency so that the clothing security tags trigger the alarm, but other devices do not.  This translates into better customer service by reducing false alarms and better theft deterrence as you can trust what the alarm is telling you.

Security tags on clothes makes a statement!!

The statement you hope to make by putting security tags on clothes is that you will not tolerate theft in your store.  I find some business leaders hesitant to make a stand against shoplifting.  They are worried that by using clothing security tags they will lose business as well.  I hate to be negative, but that thought process could not be further from the truth.  The fact is, using clothing security will increase sales.

Here is why.  You can’t sell clothes that you don’t have on the shelf.  When a shoplifter steals they not only take the physical product, but they take your sales as well because now you do not have that item to service your customer.  Additionally, you computer system does not know to order more because the stolen item did not go through a register so you are now losing additional sales as multiple customers can’t be serviced until you get the system corrected and more product in.

Now, let’s say you use Checkpoint tags to protect your product.  You will save your product from theft as shoplifters are wary of the attention the clothing alarm brings them.  That is the main point of clothing security; prevent theft.  But what the Checkpoint tags have now also done is keep that merchandise available for the next customer and it has kept your balance on hand’s correct so that you get proper replenishment to service your future sales as well.  It is important to remember that shoplifting does many things to your company, but putting security tags on clothes can do many things as well.  I don’t know about you, but I’ll take the positives that clothing security provides.

Bare racks don’t sell products. Use clothing security tags to keep the product where it belongs.

We have all found that it takes merchandise to make sales.  Sometimes this can be a problem.  On the one hand shoplifters may be taking the product.  On the other you may be hesitant to fill displays because you know the shoplifters are on the way.  The best way to win this fight is to use clothing security tags and a good clothing alarm.

I personally like Checkpoint systems.  The Checkpoint tags are great and cost effective.  Additionally, the Checkpoint clothing alarm is reliable and a great deterrent to shoplifting.  Thieves will pay attention to when you start putting security tags on clothes.  This creates a few problems for shoplifters.  First, they now have to worry about setting off the clothing alarm and being recognized.  This will reduce the number of times a shoplifter will try to steal from your business.

Secondly, by putting security tags on clothes you make the actual theft harder for the shoplifter.  They need to be able to take the Checkpoint tags off in order to use or resell the product.  This is hard to do without the proper tag remover.  This can cause the shoplifter to damage the product trying to take the tags off themselves (which made the theft pointless to begin with).  It also means that if they can take the tags off they still have to spend time doing it.  Shoplifters don’t like to be in stores for long.  Adding time to their trip by forcing them to defeat the clothing security devices prior to the theft discourages shoplifters and gives you more time to catch them.

Clothing security is a must for any soft lines retailer who wants to put the clothes where they belong.  In the customers hands.

3 Easy Break Room Activities with Checkpoint Tags That Help Stop Theft

At the company I work for clothing security tags play a large role in making sure we keep shoplifting incidents to a minimum and go a long way to protect our profits. We use Checkpoint tags on a regular basis and, though our clothes come in from the vendor with the tags on, we still have to put the security tags on clothes that are returned by our customers before the merchandise heads back out to the floor. Here are some easy tricks I found that helped me to train the sales staff where to place the clothing security tags and how to take them on and off for our customers.

1.      Host a clothing alarm contest. Dress a mannequin in a number of pieces of merchandise and ask your sales people to guess which items have security tags on them that would need to be removed. Provide a prize like a candy bar for everyone who gets the right answer.

2.      Have a race to see who can most quickly remove Checkpoint tags from items at point of sale. Missing tags that needed to be removed loses points. Tags removed are one point each. The one with the most points at the end of the time frame is the winner.

3.      Pin security tags on clothes. Take photographs of popular clothing items and ask your sales force to “pin” the tags on the clothes. Provide incentives for participation and post the right answers afterwards so everyone can learn.

Checkpoint tags a hit among specialty boutiques

Everyone expects to find security tags on clothes at your major department stores and chain stores.  Many don’t really expect to find clothing security tags on products at specialty boutiques.  The reason is simple.  In reality many specialty boutiques don’t use clothing security.  As to be expected these stores are often targeted by thieves and are much more likely to go out of business than the major chains.

It is hard to be an independent business owner in retail.  The larger stores and chain stores certainly have an advantage of being known and their brands trusted.  This puts smaller stores behind from a sales standpoint, but they are often put further behind because of theft.  Thieves are generally equal opportunity bad guys.  They don’t discriminate when it comes to who they steal from.  (Progressive I know).  With that said it is important that boutiques know that they too can enjoy the same clothing security that the big boys use.

Checkpoint tags and clothing alarm systems are more reasonably priced than they have ever been.  Like all parts of a business the system is an investment.  It is an expense up front that has the expectation that you will save more in stolen product than you paid for the system.  Checkpoint tags also come in a variety of sizes and types so you can customize a solution that is right for your business.  It is important that you still get to display your merchandise how you want and with Checkpoint tags that will never be a problem.  Whether you use hard tags or sensor tags built into the price tag, you can easily add clothing security to your store.

While the goal of being a specialty boutique is to stand out from the crowd, don’t let that statement to be that you are an easy mark for theft.

Clothing security a must for your intimate things…

There are numerous clothing retailers who specialize in intimate apparel.  Most of the rest generally have a section of undergarments in the store.  These can be some of the hardest products to keep safe in a store.  The clothing security I recommend for these products are Checkpoint tags.

Everyone knows that good quality undergarments are quite expensive.  They are also small and easy to conceal.  This is double trouble for us retailers.  I think it is necessary to put clothing security tags on these items.  Now I know that when we started putting security tags on clothes many years ago there was only one size of tag.  This made protecting the intimate apparel hard because the tags were too big for the product and it made it impossible for customers to try items on.  Now Checkpoint tags come in a variety of sizes.  There are small tags that are perfect for adding clothing security to you products.

The Checkpoint tags work with the Checkpoint clothing alarm.  This allows you to be alerted whenever your tagged merchandise walks out the door.  This is a huge deterrent to many shoplifters.  Just seeing the clothing alarm will cause many to rethink their actions.  Once they discover you have added clothing security tags to you undergarments then you will find a lot less theft from that part of the store.

Of course, it is important to remember good service.  If the employees don’t respond to the clothing alarm then the deterrent effect is reduced.  Employees play a major role in clothing security solution, but the security tags on clothes do the bulk of the work.

Clothing security tags are a must for your new fall line.

As summer is coming to an end, most clothing retailers are starting to prepare for the new fall merchandise.  One critical element to protecting your new line is utilizing clothing security tags and a clothing alarm.

There are several important reasons to put security tags on clothes.  First, we all know that traditionally, cold weather merchandise is more expensive than warm weather.  It takes a lot more fabric and insulation to make the cold weather products like jackets and such versus a skimpy swim suit.  Another critical reason why it is more necessary to use clothing security in the fall and winter is because it is easier to steal.  If someone comes in with a t-shirt and shorts in the summer, there in not much they can easily conceal.  Conversely, in the winter someone with a large jacket can conceal quite a large amount of merchandise without raising much suspicion.

I rely on Checkpoint tags as my form of clothing security.  Checkpoint tags can be placed on all of the items I carry.  I generally don’t use clothing security for all items, but rather strategically place tags on high dollar and high theft items.  When someone tries to take these items the clothing alarm at the door will sound and give me the chance to react.  Now it is true that some will continue to run out and get away with product.  The advantage of having the clothing alarm is that I now know who that person is and my staff can be on the look-out the next time they come in.  Secondly, that person knows that we use security tags on clothes and they are less likely to risk trying to steal from me again.

300 Million Shoplifters And Clothing Security

According to the Insurance Information Institute there are nearly 300 million shoplifting incidents per year. This is an all out attack on retailers large and small. The big store chains have figured it out. They use store investigators, clothing security, customer service and other techniques and tools. So why haven’t you?

Clothing security is not rocket science. If you use Checkpoint tags you place the security tags on clothes and that lets the shoplifter know that you are simply not going to roll over and die when the shoplifter tries to clean you out. Security tags on clothes are inexpensive and very effective. They come in different shapes, sizes and configurations.

The clothing alarm goes at the front of your store at the customer entrance/exit. When the shoplifter tries to steal a protected item the security tags on clothes will trip the clothing alarm and the shoplifter is uncovered. The system works 24/7 and needs little attention. Checkpoint Security Systems is the leader in this industry.

Checkpoint tags are reusable. The cashier removes them at the time of checkout. They are then taken back and recycled onto another piece of clothing.

Clothing security tags and a clothing alarm combined with good customer service is the solution to shoplifting. When faced with this “wall” shoplifter will go elsewhere where the pickings are easier. This will be your competitor who is not protected.

Clothing security tags … the next best thing to x-ray vision.

For those who work in clothing retailers you know how impactful shoplifting is to your business.  Perhaps the easiest way for shoplifters to steal clothes is by wearing them out.  The two most common ways are to simply exchange clothes or, most commonly, put the new clothes on under the old ones.  This makes it extremely hard to catch, especially if they are doing this in the fitting rooms.

In order to catch this type of shoplifting you need to put security tags on clothes.  It is illegal and unethical to place video cameras in fitting rooms or restrooms.  It is also not smart to peek over or under the door to see what your customer is doing.  To this end, the clothing security tags are the only thing you have to alert you to this type of theft.

You start by getting Checkpoint tags and installing a clothing alarm at the door.  You put the security tags on clothes and then wait for the magic to happen.  Now I never recommend making an accusation of theft based solely on the clothing alarm at the door.  Fact is, most alarms are created by the cashiers not removing the Checkpoint tags from the products at the register.  With that said, when the customer has no bags and the clothing alarm goes off then you at least have a good idea of what is going on.

Furthermore simply engaging the customer to see if they “need help with anything” lets them know that you know what they are doing and is likely to deter them from trying it again.  It also helps if you saw them take 5 items in the fitting room and only come out with 2 and then set the system off.  Process of elimination dictates they stole and you can safely make an apprehension at that point.

Security Tags on Clothes Deter Shoplifters and Save You Money

At the store where I work, we started using security tags on clothes slowly a few years ago after we noticed that the majority of our theft was in softlines merchandise. Not only was our merchandise coming up missing, it seemed as if every shoplifter we did apprehend was telling us it was easy to steal from our fitting rooms and take clothes because, as they put it, they didn’t “beep” going out the door through a clothing alarm like they did at many of the stores in the mall next store. After we began putting hard Checkpoint tags on our clothes to work with our existing EAS system, the results in our shrink have been incredible.

Because of the clothing security tags, our shrink was down in our juniors apparel in one year by almost 50%! As an LP associate my cases started to become more interesting and the police department also seemed to have more fun when people started coming in with tools to help them shoplift! Now they don’t tell me that we are easier to steal from than the mall as often as I am hearing that they couldn’t remove the Checkpoint tags without some kind of tool. Some of my shoplifters have even told me they changed their mind on stealing because we had security tags on clothes and would be ripped or destroyed if they tried to remove them.

I am so glad we took this easy step in increasing our clothing security. It has paid for itself over and over again because now we can sell the merchandise that was just being stolen before. I am really happy with the results and my police department is thankful for all the “silver bracelets” I’ve helped them hand out to criminals.
