Checkpoint security tags applied at the manufacturer is the way to go.

We all know that it is essential element of retail theft prevention using anti shoplifting devices on our products.  We also know that it takes time and payroll to put these anti shoplifting devices on the product.  Now you can put that payroll to a much better use thanks to the Checkpoint Security System.

Checkpoint systems are constantly trying to make their retail theft prevention solutions better for your business.  One way they have done that is to work with many leading manufacturers to have their Checkpoint security tags applied before the products ever ships.  This means as soon as it comes to your store it can go straight to the shelf and is worry free.  This provides one less thing for your staff to have to worry about and still keeps the product safe.  It also means that you can reduce payroll or at least use it helping customers.

There are a variety of items that this service from Checkpoint systems is offered for.  They can put soft tags on boxed and package items.  One benefit is the Checkpoint security tags can be put inside the package making it harder for a skilled shoplifter to remove the tag.  The tags can also be built into the hang tag of apparel.  The shoplifters don’t know it is there, but your product it still protected.

In order to raise profits we as business leaders have to constantly challenge ourselves to work smarter and not harder.  I’m glad to know I have a good business partner with the Checkpoint security system to share that vision.

Is your Checkpoint security system working?

I hope the answer is “Yes”.  My follow up question is, “How do you know?”  One of the biggest obstacles I have faced in my career is getting stores involved in routinely testing their anti shoplifting systems.

Think about it.  Would you buy register equipment and allow it to sit unplugged?  “Probably not.”  So then why would you pay for a Checkpoint security system and not routinely check to see that it works?  Now don’t get me wrong, the Checkpoint Security system is great and rarely goes down.  However, power outages, leaky roofs, tampering, etc. can all impact the various Checkpoint systems and cause them to not work.

Here is an example.  I routinely walk into stores and attempt to test the Checkpoint systems EAS only to find it has been turned off.  When I ask the MOD why the system is off they either don’t know or tell me it is because it kept beeping.  Generally within 3 minutes of looking I can find the Checkpoint security tags that are too close to the pedestals and creating the false alarms.  One of the other major reasons for false alarms is the Checkpoint security tags are not being deactivated properly at the registers.  Many times this is due to the deactivator being unplugged so the cashier can plug up their phone charger or a fan.  In both of these circumstances the Checkpoint systems worked fine, but the store did something to create an issue.  Had they been testing their systems daily they would have found and fixed the issue rather than turn off the system that they made quite an investment in.

Anti shoplifting devices can only do their “job” in retail theft prevention when they are turned on and tested regularly.  So I ask again, “Is your system working?”

Anyone can react to theft. Retail theft prevention is the real way to protect profits!!

One of the first things I learned in business it that to be successful one has to be proactive rather than reactive.  It is always easier and cheaper to prevent problems than it is to fix the problem after the fact.  Shoplifting is no different.  If you react to shoplifting you still lost the product.  Proper retail theft prevention helps you to keep the loss from happening to begin with.

The only way to get ahead of theft is to utilize anti shoplifting technology.  One thing I have learned is that if thieves put half as much ingenuity into legitimate business as they do finding ways to steal, they would make a rather good honest living.  I have seen some crazy work-arounds to anti shoplifting devices in my career.  As shoplifters advance and figure out how to beat a system, we as retailers have to step up our game to find a new system if we still want to prevent theft from taking place.

Enter Checkpoint systems.  I have found Checkpoint systems to be a leader in innovative retail theft prevention.  They are constantly looking for new retail theft prevention solutions and stay ahead of the crooks looking to take your profits.  They offer a few major solutions.  One is Checkpoint security tags.  Checkpoint security tags are sensor tags come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be used to create a customized solution for your business.  The Checkpoint security tags can be hidden in product, or if needed they can stand out to boldly show that your item is protected.  Additionally, the Checkpoint security system is a great way to protect your store, money and merchandise when you aren’t there.  The Checkpoint security system can give you more peace at mind as break-ins are becoming a popular move for Organized Retail Crime.

Anti Shoplifting Tools

There is no common conclusion among retailers on what constitutes the best anti shoplifting device.  There are all kinds of tools that the retailer can use to keep shoplifting under control depending on the severity and frequency of theft, the category and price point of merchandise displayed and the actual location of the store itself.  The common denominator seems to be that no matter what anti shoplifting measures the retailer takes, the shoplifter will always try to find a way to defeat it.

Convex mirrors, visible cameras, and two way mirrors are easily seen and avoided by shoplifters, as are sales people and other employees.  All a shoplifter needs is a second of privacy hidden from view to conceal merchandise and be out of the store with it.

Checkpoint Security Systems has a retail theft prevention plan designed to stop shoplifting by all but the most determined shoplifters.

The retailer makes the decision as to the criteria of the merchandise to be protected.  Checkpoint labels or Checkpoint tags are attached to that merchandise and effectively ensures that a shoplifter will not steal it.

Checkpoint labels are placed on the packaging of merchandise considered high theft.  There are a large selection of anti shoplifting labels available from Checkpoint Systems that attach to the packages with adhesive or are hidden inside the merchandise so that it is not visible to the customer.  If these retail anti theft devices have not been deactivated by an employee and are carried out the door, an alarm will sound, alerting the staff to take action.

The Checkpoint tags attach to apparel and ready to wear by a pin that goes through the garment in an inconspicuous place and secures the tag to the garment.  The Checkpoint tags can be removed only with a special detacher.  As with the label, failure to remove the tag will result in an audible alarm at the exit.

Checkpoint Systems can help any retailer who wants to cut his losses due to shoplifting.  The presence of the Checkpoint Security System alone deters most shoplifters since it is visible but not intimidating at the customer entrance and the Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels are extremely difficult to remove or defeat.

Used by themselves or with other retail theft prevention tools, a Checkpoint Security System will significantly decrease a retailer’s loss to customer theft.

Anti Shoplifting Checkpoint Tags are Alarming

Anti shoplifting Checkpoint tags used as part of a retail theft prevention plan along with Checkpoint Security Systems EAS protection of vulnerable high theft merchandise is alarming!

The shoplifters think it’s alarming because once the Checkpoint Security System is installed in the store, they will have to decide on another retailer to visit in order to continue to commit their crime undetected.  The customer can’t remove the Checkpoint tags once they’re attached.

The Checkpoint security tag is also alarming when it passes through the detection field of the Checkpoint Systems antennas located at the store’s entrance.  The audible alarm and flashing light (on most models) alert store staff to the fact that Checkpoint tags are still attached to articles that are leaving the store and require attention.  An employee using a special detacher specifically designed by Checkpoint Systems removes the tags at the point of sale.

Anti shoplifting applications for the Checkpoint security tags are designed for almost any type of merchandise, including specialty items.  The RF (Radio Frequency) technology used in Checkpoint Security Systems is the very latest and most advanced in the industry for retailers.  Also alarming for shoplifters is that the retailer can pick and choose which merchandise to protect.  Shoplifters will definitely avoid stores that utilize a Checkpoint Security System as part of its anti shoplifting strategy.  Apparel, sports gear, hardware, electronics, and almost any other type of merchandise you can imagine can be protected by one of Checkpoint Systems selection of hard tags or Checkpoint labels.

Checkpoint labels are best suited for items that a tag won’t work well on because of size or material, such as boxed or packaged items.

One thing a retailer won’t be alarmed about is the improvement in inventory shortage figures once an anti shoplifting program including Checkpoint Security Systems is used in his store.

Retail theft prevention is more than just a quick fix, but it is possible.

Most everyone is familiar with anti shoplifting devices such as EAS tags.  Hopefully, you are familiar with Checkpoint systems product, the Checkpoint security tags.  Many still don’t really have an understanding of how the Checkpoint security tags can really fight professional shoplifters and Organized Retail Crime rings.  Here is an example of how a fully functioning Checkpoint security system can work for retail theft prevention.

I had a store using Checkpoint systems.  One day the EAS alarm activated and the clerk looked up just in time to see a professional booster running out of the door with stolen product.  Now I already hear the questions.  If they got away where’s the retail theft prevention?  Keep reading.  In addition to the Checkpoint security tags, the store also had the Checkpoint systems CCTV system.  They were able to go back on the DVR to find the shoplifter entering and get a good picture of his face.  Management then showed the video to all of the employees and asked that they contact management if they saw that person.

Naturally, since the shoplifter was so successful the first time, he came back about a week later.  The cashier saw the perp enter the store and immediately called the manager.  The manager used the Checkpoint systems camera to verify that it was, in fact, the same guy and observed the shoplifter starting to conceal merchandise.  The manager went ahead and notified the PD who headed that way.  As the shoplifter attempted to leave this time the Checkpoint security system alarm sounded and the manager approached the shoplifter to ask for a receipt.  As the guy started to flea he ran right into the waiting arms of the police and was promptly taken to jail.

It sometimes takes work to build your case, but the right anti shoplifting devices make the job a lot easier when properly used.

Lessen the Impact of Theft with Checkpoint Systems

Businesses can be impacted by shoplifters at any time of the day. Businesses also feel the impact of shoplifting from a variety of thieves; everyone from the professional thief to the petty shoplifter. The outcome of either type of shoplifting is the same – loss of merchandise and profit for your business. The amount of loss can vary between the two groups and the impact on profit can be significant.

Retail theft prevention is a generic term for what you, as a business owner, can do to prevent theft in your business. It can mean teaching your employees about what they can do to prevent theft. Retail theft prevention can also mean utilizing anti shoplifting devices such as Checkpoint systems. Some type of system needs to be in place in order to lessen the effects of theft from shoplifters.

A Checkpoint Security System, for example, includes Checkpoint security tags that can be attached to your high theft merchandise. These reusable devices are removed at the time of purchase at the register, and offer a deterrent to those customers that consider shoplifting at your business. They also are very difficult to remove without a key, so they slow down a shoplifter’s attempt to steal. Shoplifters need anonymity and speed in order to carry out their desire to steal, so a Checkpoint security system can take away those opportunities.

Anti shoplifting devices can, for minimal investment, prevent the losses from shoplifting that your business is experiencing. Checkpoint security tags are a proven example of an effective tool for retail theft prevention. Profits improve, and shoplifters move on to an unprotected business.

Anti shoplifting efforts pay back the bottom line

Anti shoplifting efforts can be a profit booster from many angles. However, in my opinion, no efforts are easier to achieve than that of a checkpoint security system.

A checkpoint security system operates by detecting checkpoint security tags attached to merchandise throughout your stores that has not yet been deactivated at the point of sale. If and when a shoplifter conceals this tagged merchandise and passes through the checkpoint systems, an alarm is activated and puts the shoplifter in a very uncomfortable position. He has only one of two choices, run or drop the merchandise. Most often, shoplifters drop the merchandise and run.

Retail theft prevention and other anti shoplifting efforts have been around for many years, but retailers today are getting smarter about the protection and prevention methods. In years past, retail theft prevention was more of a reaction than prevention. With the incorporation of tools like checkpoint systems, the retailer is given more of a chance at self protection.

I worked in a chain of drug stores that had checkpoint security tags on much of its merchandise. Although this merchandise was well protected, the store was slow to install the tags on other high value merchandise. Over about a 6 month period, the amount of loss in the lines of merchandise not protected with checkpoint security tags increased bout greater than 1%. It was clear to the store team and I that our retail theft prevention program had to be stretched out to cover the other valuable items.

As time went on the store was able to prevent more loss and protect its profits. Today the store has more than 100 stores opened and can place a lot of the growth directly at the feet of retail theft prevention like checkpoint systems.

Are anti shoplifting solutions at work for you?

If you pay an employee you expect him/her to work, right?  Well the same should go for the anti shoplifting devices you buy.  Let’s face it, with the economy where it is we are all concerned with expenses.  That said, you have to have employees in order to make sales and in the same regards you have to utilize retail theft prevention tools in order to protect the profit from those sales.

So how can you make anti shoplifting products “work”?  There are several ways.  First, you have to have the right “employee”.  Checkpoint security system is a leader in innovative retail theft prevention tools, such as Checkpoint security tags, cameras, clothing alarms, etc.  So now that we have hired the right “employee” in Checkpoint systems, we need to do the training.

Systems are only as good as the people who work them.  Managers need to be properly trained on how to use the Checkpoint security system cameras if they are going to track known shoplifters and avoid getting repeatedly hit by the same thieves.  Cashiers and other associates need to be trained on the EAS system so they know how to apply Checkpoint security tags properly and respond to the alarms properly.  (A few tips on the Checkpoint security tags placement.  Put hard tags in seams of product to avoid damaging the merchandise.  Put soft tags near the barcodes (preferably on the inside of the package if possible) to help ensure deactivation at the register.)

Finally, you have to manage the program.  Retail theft prevention is not a hands off process.  It requires monitoring, regular follow up to ensure proper functionality and fine tuning; just like the rest of your employees.  The good thing is Checkpoint systems offers great service to assist you in this process.
