I worked for a company that had slowly been integrating their retail theft prevention over the course of several years. They had minimal finances to spare to stop shoplifting, but knew they needed to have as much as possible.

They would progressively add a camera here and a recording device there. Not much matched as far as brands, or systems go. It was very much a conglomerate of mixed media fixtures.

Eventually, the company signed on with Checkpoint Security System to install and maintain the door towers and the Checkpoint tags they were investing in. Since the contract with Checkpoint Security System also included a service contract for their camera system they thought they were completely covered.

The Checkpoint tags were pretty low maintenance, and the door towers had minimal issues beyond the annual servicing and testing. Where there were problems was with the camera systems.

As they would slowly break down, we discovered that Checkpoint Systems was very limited on what they could do to repair them. Because most of the cameras had been bought at a discount, they were off brands with limited warranties.

The end result was that we spent more to replace the camera systems with authorized Checkpoint Systems products. Had we spent the money initially on the Checkpoint Security Systems, we would not have had to pay for the cameras and components twice.
