Immune to the Sound – Clothing Alarm

Of all the potential challenges I have faced with clothing security, the worst has really been dealing with clothing alarms.

You would think that the worst part of Checkpoint tags would be trying to make sure all of your clothes have the right clothing security tags on them. Having security tags on clothes is only time consuming. Having your employees actually respond to the clothing alarm takes a lot more than just time.

The first part is awareness. Your employees actually have to be aware of their surroundings and acknowledge when an alarm goes off. Just like many other sensory things (sights, smells) we become immune to repeated sounds over time.

A clothing alarm is no different than a car alarm. Over time, even the best of us, have become immune to the sound of one going off in a parking garage or outside our homes. Our employees become immune to these same alarms – especially when close to 95% are false alarms.

How do you solve the problem? Start with the basics of clothing security. Make sure you have consistent placement of your tags. It makes it easier for your employees to find. When your employees can find the tags, they can have a better accuracy rate of deactivating the tags thus reducing the number of false alarms.
