If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times already; there is no singular perfect way to catch criminals. If someone is truly set upon finding a way of stealing or defrauding your company, they will likely find a way and get away with it for some time before you actually catch on and stop them. During my two year tenure, there were no less than seven known instances of employees being fired for committing fraud or embezzling customer assets. So while background checks are certainly helpful, without maintaining constant vigilance over your workforce they can still harm your business.
