I had a shoplifter last week and all he really wanted was a new hat. He came into the department and started to try on every hat he could get his hands on. Gradually, he started to narrow down his selection to just a few hats.
What caught my eye wasn’t that he was making a huge mess out of the discarded hats, it was how he was looking at the hats he liked.
He wasn’t comparing the hats to his clothes, or his shoes. He wasn’t even looking at them in the mirror any more. Most guys, when they are looking to buy a ball cap, will play with the bill, and try to get just the right curve to it.
