Not Always Accurate- Background Check Experts

When you contract with reputable and experience background check experts, you should not have to worry that they will try and make your business liable for errors found on pre employment screening. They need to stand behind their work and the background checks that they generate for you.
If for some reason, the background check company will not back their work, or pushes the liability back to you, you need to go elsewhere.  That should be an enormous red flag that these so called background check experts may not actually be in the business of providing accurate background checks.
When you conduct pre employment screening, your business can be held liable for the information that you find. In particular, if a potential candidate is declined employment based off of those findings, they can come back at you and your business.
If a potential job candidate feels like they were wrongfully declined, they have the option to contest the check, and bring potential litigation against your business if the pre employment screening was proven to contain misinformation.
When you contract background check experts, you push this liability back to them. They are now responsible for providing you accurate and timely employee background checks. If for some reason there is determined to be erroneous information, the liability is with the background check experts and not with you.
Employee background checks are not always accurate. It is in how the errors are resolved and how the potential candidate feels they are treated in the process that determines how likely they will be to start litigation against you.

Add Some Clarity – Alpha Shark Tags

When you clarify your return policy, customers have a better chance of understanding what they can and cannot do even before a purchase is made. It is easier to retain your customer base when they understand what the ground rules are. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to make a legitimate return, only to find out that the store will not allow it because they are more concerned about wardrobing than taking care of their customer.
That means you need to make sure your return policy is clear and concise, while still deterring wardrobing retail. A few examples are to start with posting your return policy in writing where the customer can see it. You can reinforce this by printing it on the back of the receipt, or adding a second attachment that has the return policy on it.
Secondly educate your employees to educate your customers. Have them verbally explain the policy as the customer is making their purchase. This is especially crucial if they are buying something that has special return considerations like a shortened time frame or all items must be in their original packaging. This is also the best time to describe what the Alpha Shark Tags are, why they are on the clothing, and how it affects the customer’s ability to return the item later on.

Should Have Visualized It- Alpha Nano Gate

The Alpha Security Alpha Nano Gate has proven results that prevent shoplifting. When used in retail environments that need additional security in a more localized area, the Alpha Nano Gate has come to the rescue.
What many retailers are overlooking is how well the Alpha Nano Gate works in preventing employee theft.
In a few of my stores, I have employed a visual manager. Their job was to keep signage up to date, and create visual displays using new and popular merchandise.
Since they routinely took multiple products off the sales floor and back to their office/ stock area to carry out their job responsibilities, no one ever questioned why they had merchandise in their hands, or in piles back on their desk.
What we didn’t realize until after it was too late was that this manager had been stealing merchandise for years. It was only after they left to pursue anther job, did we uncover the massive quantity of discarded price tags, labels and retail anti theft devices.
They used their access to cover up the extra product they were taking home. If we had better controls in place, and used the Alpha Nano Gate to prevent merchandise back in the office, we may have prevented these losses.
Visit the Loss Prevention Store for Alpha 2Alarm, Alpha 3Alarm, Alpha Fashion2, Alpha Jewel Lok, Alpha Nano Gate,  Alpha Shark Tag, Alpha Spider Wrap and other retail anti-theft devices from Alpha Security to use in conjunction with your Electronic Article Surveillance or EAS system that can help you prevent shoplifting in your business.

The Old Standby- Retail Anti Theft Devices

An Alpha Security ink tag is a step up from common retail anti theft devices. The ink tags utilize a basic EAS tag and add two separate vials of dye (staining ink) to the plastic casement of the tag. Since the vials are visible, and there is a warning not to tamper with the vials, a normal shopper will not suffer any adverse consequences from the Alpha Security ink tags.
These tags provide the normal risk of getting caught by an alarm if the tags are not removed from the merchandise prior to leaving the store.
A suspected shoplifter who tampers with these tags will get ink stains on their hands. A knowledgeable investigator or law enforcement officer can potentially use those stains as evidence in court since the ink can be matched to the broken ink vials in the tags.
In addition to the ink spilling onto a shoplifter’s hands, the ink will also stain the merchandise. If the merchandise is worthless, there is no point in stealing it. Clothing cannot be resold or worn easily when the ink stains the fabric beyond repair.
The addition of the ink vials provides an additional layer of protection to prevent shoplifting.

Protect Your Glasses With Eyewear Tags- Security Tags on Clothes

Eyewear Tags are small attachments that fit on the earpieces of prescription glasses and sunglasses. The Eyewear Tag provides durable construction with a protective cushion that securely holds and protects eyewear. Having this innovation in clothing security is a huge win for any business that carries these glasses.
Training your employees on how to use and reuse them will be a breeze. They are easy to apply and remove, and easily reused for the next pair of glasses that comes into your inventory.
They come in two sizes in RF technology and three sizes in AM technology, both of which are common industry standard forms of clothing alarms. This makes it even easier for this new clothing security to seamlessly incorporate with existing clothing alarm found in your store.
Even better for you and your customers is how small and unobtrusive the Eyewear Tags really are. As with any other security tags on clothes, you wouldn’t want to inconvenience your customers in the name of theft prevention. The tags are fitted so the flat side is inward- eliminating bulk for when a customer is trying the glasses on.

Don’t A-BAND-on Hope Just Yet- Alpha Security

Protecting merchandise such as shoes, zippered bags (like comforters and sheet sets), and intimates has historically been difficult. To attach EAS hard tags to these products resulted in damaging delicate materials, causing an imposition to customers attempting to try on the clothing, or just in general looked tacky and out of place. Retailers no longer need to abandon hope of finding a way to prevent shoplifting. Alpha Security has a product named the Banded Hard Tag.
Instead of the conventional two-part retail anti theft devices, the Banded Hard Tag is designed out of just one piece of molded plastic. By only having one piece to control instead of two, retailers will find a variety of benefits from using this new design.
The tags are small, measuring a mere 1.78”L x 0.637”W x 0.844”D. Due to this size, the Alpha Security Banded Hard Tags will easily and discreetly fit zippers on home good’s bags, eyes of shoes, or onto delicate and sheer intimates. Don’t think that because the retail anti theft devices are small they won’t prevent shoplifting other clothing items.
The Alpha Security Banded Hard Tags are a versatile solution for all of your merchandise.

An Uncomfortable Silence- Checkpoint Tags

If you walked out the exit door triggering the alarm because you had active Checkpoint tags on some merchandise with you, what would your employees do? Would they come over to deactivate the tags? Would they validate the receipt?
Would they simply ignore the alarm and continue on with what they are doing? That uncomfortable silence emanating from your employees can do more harm than you may realize.
What we often forget about is how to train our employees in responding to clothing alarms generated by security tags on clothes. Any alarm that is not responded to is a signal to potential thieves that no one cares about the alarm activations. If no one cares, than it is easier for a thief to steal and not worry about the consequences of getting caught.
That is where training your employees on the expectations are critical. It doesn’t matter how many times an alarm goes off, if no one responds, all of your time and effort to tag the merchandise is rendered useless.
More often than not, the reason why employees disregard the alarms is because they do not feel comfortable with how to respond. By properly training them and showing them your own example of how to respond, your alarm activations will be much more productive.

Fool Me Once- Internal Theft

There is a saying: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I am not sure where to go with fool me a third time. In this unusual case of internal theft reported on by the Huffington Post that is exactly what happened.
A 17-year-old boy was fired from his job at a chain retailer for stealing money. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for this now terminated employee. The teen went to a second store in a nearby town on Black Friday. He told them he was there from a different store to help with Black Friday.
They put him at a register. He worked for about six hours and took all the cash that he made. That haul totaled about $3,000.
When the manager realized (after the fact) what happened, he notified police and the company’s corporate headquarters. Local authorities launched what would be another employee theft investigation.
Managers at a third store were unaware of what was going on when the teen when he showed up there in December. He presented himself as a general manager and said he needed to run some audits on some of the registers and on the store.
He was even able to convince one of the store’s managers to take him into the cash room. While in the cash room, the manager was called to assist another employee.
It was during that time that the teen stuffed his pants with around $36,000.

While The Cat’s Away- Pre Employment Screening

Customers are very in tune with how employees act and interact. Often, our customers see and understand more about our employee’s behavior than what we ever will. They see them at their best and also at their worst. Your customers see the actions of our employees when we are not there. When we bypass pre employment screening, we are often left with employees who believe that when the cat is away, the mice should play.
Your employees are not going to act out when we, or other managers, are there. They will act out when we are not. If we have hired employees who do not have drive, motivation or integrity, it will become most apparent the second we leave the building. Pre employment screening is a way to determine if we have hired quality employees, before we actually hire them.
Your front line defense, as it relates to your employees, is the line of communication and representation between your company and your customers. If this front line does not represent your business, as you see fit, your sales will suffer from customers who leave and will not come back.
Pre employment screening should be at the front of your hiring procedures. This will help ensure you are hiring the best to represent your business when you are not there. Without pre employment screening, you risk hiring employees who do not have integrity, motivation, or the drive to provide quality customer service in your absence.

The Necessity Of Strategic Placement- Wardrobing Tags

One of the more common items that men will buy, wear and then return (referred to in the industry as wardrobing) is a necktie. Just as a woman wants to have a new dress for each occasion she goes to, men want to update their looks to. A quality tie can sometimes run you just as much as a women’s special occasion dress can.
Wardrobing Tags are a great solution. The attachment pins are delicate enough to not snag even fine silk.
If the tag is properly attached to the upper end of the lower third of the tie, the Alpha Shark Tags will not be hidden even when the tie is tied around the purchaser’s neck.
This strategic placement is key to success. If the wardrobing tags are to low, or on the wrong end, the tag can be hidden from view, rendering it ineffective against wardrobing retail. In most cases, it would be extremely easy for a man to hide the tags through some strategic knot tying on their part. Similarly, they could be sandwiched between the two ends of the tie, and sealed with a tie clip if they are placed on the wrong (skinny back side) of the necktie.
Once you figure out the sweet spot of the tag placement, you will have no problems maintaining this deterrent against wardrobing.
