RF security labels sewn in the clothes at manufacturing!? For real???

Yes.  You can now get your RF security labels and RF security tags applied during manufacturing so you don’t have to do it.  How amazing is that?  No more associate hours spent putting on EAS tags, but rather spent helping customers.  Isn’t that an innovative concept?

Checkpoint security is a leading maker of RF security tags and RF security labels.  Their Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags can now be applied directly during the manufacturing process.  If you sell clothes you can have Checkpoint labels woven inside the clothes (much like the wash instructions).  The EAS deactivator at checkout will deactivate the tag and the customer can leave it alone or remove easily with a pair of scissors at home.  Besides helping to deter theft this can also help defend against wear and return customers.  If they cut the tags out you know they’ve worn and altered the product and can easily refuse the refund.

For many other items you can have the Checkpoint labels and Checkpoint security tags built in.  For boxed products they can apply the RF security tags either on the inside or the outside of the boxes.  If done outside it is more visible to shoplifters to let them know this item is protected.  If you are having a problem with ORC groups removing labels before stealing the product you can make it harder by having them put inside the boxes. It is hard to stop shoplifting, but using RF labels and tags will go a long way to helping in this fight.

What Are You Doing to Prevent Shoplifting?

Retailers must ensure that they are doing all they can to prevent shoplifting.  Shoplifting is a serious problem and must be met with serious solutions.  Retailers that create an environment in their stores that makes it difficult for shoplifters to conduct their criminal activities will be successful in reducing their inventory losses.  There are a few measures that retailers can take that will have an instant impact on reducing inventory losses and prevent shoplifting.

It should be the goal of every retailer to create an environment of shoplifter awareness.  Attentive associates are always the first line of defense in the fight to prevent shoplifting.  Associates should be trained in identifying suspicious behavior.  Shoplifters often have the same method of operation.  They will enter the store in hopes of catching an associate busy and unaware of their movement throughout the department.  The shoplifter wants uninterrupted time to steal the merchandise they want.  This is why attentive associates are important.

However, it is not always possible for an associate to be there to prevent shoplifting from taking place.  This is the reason smart retailers invest in retail anti theft devices.  These devices act as a visible deterrent to shoplifting.  Retail anti theft devices is great at deterring shoplifting.  Shoplifters know that these devices are not easy to get around.  Security tags that are attached onto clothing are impossible to remove from clothing.  Merchandise that has RF security labels integrated into them is hard to identify and the shoplifter may be detected by a RF security system.

Having a well trained staff and the right retail anti theft devices in your store can mean major reductions in inventory shortages.  It is imperative that both of these measures be apart of an overall strategy to reduce the losses from shoplifting in your stores.  Preventing shoplifting is the responsibility of every associate, but even good associates need help.  Retail anti theft devices provides the help they need.

Focus on customers not shoplifters with clothing security tags!

Great customer service drives retail businesses. Without great service, customers won’t want to come back and continuing buying your merchandise. But how can you deliver great service if all of your focus is on shoplifters and potential thieves? Allow clothing security tags to deter the shoplifters and free you up to deliver the service that will drive customers to come back time and time again.

A few days ago at a store neighboring my work, a shoplifter ran out with several pairs of jeans that had no clothing security tags. The associates and managers were in a panic outside of the store calling the police and attempting to describe what the thief looked like as he ran down the street with their clothes. I couldn’t help but wonder how many potential customers could have received great customer service in the time the associates were busy with the thief. They could have sold hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise! If only they had clothing security.

Occurrences such as the one above could have easily been prevented had that store installed clothing alarms. Installing Checkpoint tags and clothing alarms throughout your store can free up your associates to fully focus on the customer. Not only can security tags on clothes deter shoplifters, they have minimal interference to the customer who can simply take them to the register to have the clothing security removed at the time of purchase.

Don’t be the store that is not protected. Install clothing security, such as Checkpoint tags, on your merchandise and allow your associates to focus on the customer.

The consequences of a bad hiring decision

Pre employment screening is a necessary part of the hiring process that cannot be overlooked because the consequences of one bad hire can be disastrous.  In most businesses employee costs are the first or second line item in your annual budget.  Employee costs can include anything from pay, benefits, training and much more so making good hiring decisions and conducting background checks is critical to protecting your investment.

Unfortunately most companies today spend more time and effort trying to decide on the best copy machine or competing wireless devices than they do in selecting qualified applicants or conducting background checks.  Background check experts believe that the fallout from a single bad hire can rise to more than twice the employee’s annual salary.

The long-term impact of failing to conduct employee background checks is numerous; lost customers and business, litigation, lost brand recognition or credibility, damaged employee morale, theft or destruction of property, workplace violence and so much more.  The possibilities are endless!

Most businesses do not have the time or resources to conduct pre employment screening in house so they hire background check experts that can save time and reduce liability.  Don’t let your workplace become victimized by a bad hire because you failed to employ a background check company to perform criminal background checks on your prospective new hires… or even your existing employees!

A background check company can conduct fast and affordable criminal background checks on your short list applicants before you make that critical hiring decision. The simple measure of conducting employee background checks alone could you’re your business thousands in lost time and revenue by keeping criminals out of the workplace.

Better Holiday Business with Employee Background Checks

Businesses are busier than ever right now and to handle the increase in customer traffic, many businesses are looking to hire temporary employees for the holiday season.  Are criminal background checks necessary, even for temporary employees?  The answer is yes.

Pre employment screening can weed out those people that may be looking to steal from you for the holidays.  Criminals know that along with the season comes an increase in desirable merchandise, as well as cash from increased sales.  Some criminals seek temporary employment just to gather intel on how to steal from businesses.  They steal on their own internally or by becoming an employee to enable co-conspirators acting as customers to steal.

Even when caught, many thieves go on to commit crimes again.  This is evident by the rate in which those in prison return later again after being released.  Often the desire to earn a quick profit illegally is greater than the risk being taken.  This is why employee background checks can be very beneficial to the business owner wanting to know who exactly he or she is hiring.

A reputable background check company can help you make your decision by doing an in-depth check on your potential employee.  Background check experts will provide you with the information you are unable to obtain from a resume, an application, or even a face to face interview.

Background checks for employees, whether temporary or permanent, are worth the reassurance that the decision you have made to hire is the right one.  Going this extra step before hiring can save losses down the road.

Employee theft linked to rising prices – Atlanta Georgia

Statistically the number one reason that businesses raise their prices is to offset loss.  Secondly they raise prices to offset an increase in cost from the vendors.  Both of these can be strongly influenced by internal theft (also known as employee theft).

Employee theft is the number one causer of loss in major retail.  Most studies show internal theft as contributing to 45-70% of the overall losses to the company.  In addition, retailers aren’t the only ones experiencing employee theft.  Vendors and manufacturers have internal theft as well.  No company is exempt.  A vendor or manufacturer can have low level employees taking goods and they can have upper management cooking the books and embezzling money as well.  All of these losses are then passed onto the next person down the chain.  The manufacturer charges the vendors more to offset their losses.  The vendors then charge the stores more when they sell to the buyers.  The stores in turn charge more to the consumer.  One way to help keep prices low for your customers and protect your profits is to conduct an employee theft investigation.  This can be done by a trained manager or can be outsourced to trained LP Investigators.

A proper employee theft investigation is geared at accomplishing several results.  The first result is to find the thief and get rid of them.  On the surface this at least fixes that particular problem.  But the employee theft investigation should not stop there.  It should also look at how much did the employee take and pursue restitution, civil demand and possible criminal prosecution.  This will recoup money for the company so ultimately the losses are minimized.  Additionally, the employee theft investigation should look for others committing the same acts and should look at possible solutions to preventing future losses of this nature.  This provides more long term solutions against employee theft.

Stop shoplifting or it may be YOUR goose being cooked!!

As a District LP Manger of a supermarket chain I am often struck by what people will actually try to steal.  It can be funny, but also unnerving, to see someone actually try to stick a turkey, ham or other large item under a dress and try to walk out.  Besides the sanitation issues that I don’t even want to ponder, I am very concerned by the brazen approach to supermarket theft.  I see more push outs and other obvious thefts here than any other hard or soft line retailer that I have ever worked before.  In order to stop shoplifting I rely heavily on RF security tags and RF security labels.

One leading producer of RF security tags and RF security labels is Checkpoint.  Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels are some of the best in the business.  There are a variety of sizes and shapes that the Checkpoint security tags and Checkpoint labels can be purchased.  This helps me to protect a wide variety of products.  I can use the hard Checkpoint security tags and lanyards to protect some of the general merchandise and promo items that we sell.  I use RF labels on a large variety of OTC, HBC and Meat products.  There are several options for each category that I find work well for my business.  From RF label soaker pads to source tagging options, Checkpoint helps me stop shoplifting and increase customer satisfaction.

Do you use Keeper cases to prevent shoplifting?

I bet the answer is “No”, but hopefully you will reconsider.  Keeper cases are one of many great retail anti theft devices produced by Alpha Security in an effort to help you prevent shoplifting.  I had never heard of Keeper cases until about a year ago when I changed jobs.  The new company I went to work for started using them after we saw them at a conference.  I have been more than impressed with line of retail anti theft devices that we use from Alpha Security.

The Keeper case is great for small items.  There are many different sizes and shapes that can be used to fit specific commodities and then there are other boxes that can be used as a “catch all” for whatever you need protecting.  Some of the specific commodities that are offered are cases for: video games / DVD’s, Razors, Family Planning items, Blank DVD spindles, Infant Formula, etc.  Again, there are generic Keeper cases as well that you can use for other boxed merchandise.  I have a variety of other items that I use them for (i.e. cosmetics, over the counter medicines, small electronics, etc.).

The Keeper case is a clear hard plastic box that locks the merchandise inside.  It has a built in non-deactivatible tag in the top that will work with your existing EAS system so no other hardware is required.  You can simply get the cases you need and start to prevent shoplifting immediately.  Another great feature is that you can get clips to hang the Keeper cases on pegs or you can stock directly on the shelf.  This sometimes helps in merchandising odd shaped packages as the case has a flat bottom and stacks nicely without falling over.  Finally, you get the security of locked products without the negative impact of customers having to wait for someone to get the product for them.  They can self-serve and bring to the register.

Are You Defending Your Apparel Profits?

In this economic environment it is important for retailers to defend their apparel profits as they can go a long way in determining the overall profitability of a retailer.  A solid clothing security program that includes clothing security tags and a clothing alarm system is critical in protecting profits from clothing sells.  It is not wise for a retailer to think that shoplifters want target their stores.  A great defense to theft is having a great offense in place.  Clothing security is an offensive strategy that has been proven effective at reducing loss due to theft.  Clothing security tags act as a visual deterrent to theft.  A clothing alarm is a visual and audible deterrent to theft.  A clothing alarm can send a shoplifter running for the exit.

How do you decide what brand of clothing security rags to use? When placing security tags on clothes it is important to make sure the clothing security tags will be reliable and not prone to defect. Checkpoint tags provide that reliability the reliability that you’re looking for.  Checkpoint tags are used throughout the retail industry.  Checkpoint tags come in an array of sizes, shapes and colors.  When placing these security tags on clothes you can be confident that they will be effective at deterring theft. The placement of these security tags on clothes is easy and fast. Clothing security tags usually have two pieces which snap together.  Clothing security tags are as simple to detach as they are to attach to clothes.  Having security tags on clothes means a better defended product.

Clothing security is a total team effort associates must be willing to place security tags on clothes.  Let them know that in doing so they are helping the store to be profitable.  In my experience as a loss prevention manger I have found associates are more than willing to do their part to defend the store from theft.

Employee Theft: Even the best employees are not immune. – Atlanta Georgia

It is true; some of a retailer’s best employees are committing employee theft.  Often high performing associates are not looked at in terms of employee theft; however, I have seen several high performing employees get caught stealing from the company.  Incidences of internal theft are not exclusive to poor performing employees.  These employees may never think about taking from the place they work.

Employee theft or internal theft as it is referred to, can be appealing to any employee that is interested in gaining the system for their own personal enrichment.  I have often found that associates who believe that they are beyond reproach will take in much more brazen ways.  The thought that, no one would ever suspect me, creates a false sense of security for the associate.  Associates that are bent on stealing from the company may also have leadership roles.

I remember an internal theft case that involved a manager with over twenty years of service.  During an employee theft investigation the manager was shown to be disarming the security system at night.  The manager should have been gone for the day, but said they had to get some work done.  The employee theft investigation revealed that the manager was actually taking merchandise out of the store and putting it in their car.

When the employee theft investigation was ended and the manager was interviewed the manager admitted to over $20,000.00 in merchandise theft.  The manager had supposedly started taking the merchandise to finance a personal problem they were dealing with.  The store manager could not believe the person they counted on for years would be implicated in an employee theft investigation.  It was obvious that the store manager would have never watched the assistant manager or even thought that they would have ever stolen from the company.
