Source tagging is a retail theft prevention practice of embedding Checkpoint labels, or other brands of retail theft prevention, within an actual product. This takes place at the point of manufacturing.
Source tagging takes the smallest possible Checkpoint labels and hides them in seams of clothing, or within the soles of popular athletic shoes. By affixing the labels within the actual product during production, a retailer’s payroll spent attaching hard tags to clothing and other products is reduced. Conversely, the retailers are also saving payroll and customer check out times as there is no need to remove, sort and recycle these embedded labels.
The labels are deactivated using the same deactivator pad used for most Checkpoint systems. There are no additional supplies or accessories to invest in since the source tagged labels are Checkpoint systems compatible. The labels will deactivate the same way any other exterior labels do, even though they are buried inside of a garment or product.
Designed as a better way to stop shoplifting, source tagged merchandise makes a shoplifter hesitate, as they can’t find the labels to defeat them. Rather than risk being caught by an alarm at the exit doors, the majority of your common shoplifters will bypass stealing from retailers that are known to utilize buried source tags.
